Will Ospreay has described his AEW Dynamite PAC tribute match against Ricochet as “one of the most difficult matches” of his career. The episode, which focused on the late star’s life and career, took place on September 30.
PAC, whose real name was Benjamin Satterley, died at age 40 on September 27, hours after competing at AEW All Out. The investigation into the death is still ongoing.
After multiple tributes to PAC throughout the match, Ospreay hit PAC’s signature move, Black Arrow, to win. It was the first time he had performed the move in eight years. The match also carried an emotional weight for both wrestlers. Ospreay and Ricochet put aside their competitive history to honor their close friend.
Speaking on ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey’s vlog, Ospreay explained that the move was difficult because he weighed more than he did the last time he performed it (via Fightful).
“Yeah, that was a tough one. I ain’t done that in eight years. The last time I did it, I was like 10 kilos lighter. I don’t know what that is in pounds, but that was one of the most difficult matches I’ve ever done in my life when it comes to myself and Trevor (Ricochet). Obviously, there is always hard feelings between us because egos are always getting away, and you always want to be sitting on top of the throne, and I know he wants this championship. But to be able to put our differences aside, and do a great, great tribute to a very good friend of the pair of us. I wanted to do it right. The whole time building up to this, one thing people kept saying was, if anyone can hit the Black Arrow, it was me. Hadn’t done it in eight years. I found a way of doing it now.”
PAC’s sudden death and its impact were also acknowledged throughout the September 30 Dynamite broadcast, which featured multiple tributes from AEW wrestlers.
