Holiday Bash continues with Collision and two more C2 matches. It has been getting busier as we head into the holiday season so this is a bit late.
Gold League: Jack Perry [0] vs. Mike Bailey [6]
Perry is the lone man in his block with 0, while Bailey is hot off a massive win over Kyle Fletcher. This battle of the babyfaces started with a handshake and then a feeling out process, with the guys trying to play to their strengths. Bailey hit a moonsault to the outside before he got dropped on the steel steps heading into commercial. Returning, Speedball sold the back as he fired up with an array of kicks. Kind of wild to see a Destroyer on the apron just being used randomly. Wrestling is odd. Meanwhile, Perry had to deal with a bad ankle throughout. Jack countered the Flamingo Driver into the Snare Trap. Speedball survived but missed Ultima Weapon, got his toes bitten and then Perry won with a back suplex in 12:41. That was something. It lacked any kind of real energy and felt like they were going through the motions with no heat. That finish was also weak as hell. [**¾]
Gold League: Kazuchika Okada [6] vs. Kevin Knight [3]
On paper, Knight is way out of his depth here. We got some solid back and forth to start, including a trading of forearms that Okada had the advantage during. Okada seemingly wasn’t taking Knight seriously, finding ways to mess with him or taunt him. Still, a dropkick sent Okada off the apron going into the break. Okada turned the tide during the commercial and wore down Knight. As we hit the 10 minute mark, this felt like it was getting ready to hit the next gear. Knight looked to be in trouble but started to rally to give us the typical hot finish to an Okada match. Knight found a way to counter the Rainmaker a few times, including by pulling Okada into an inside cradle for the massive upset in 13:53. That was good, though it never sniffed being anything more. The result is what we’ll all remember though. [***¼]
