Alexandre Almeida Says He’s Back on a Path Toward a Championship

Alexandre Almeida spoke with MMAjunkie ahead of his fight with Steven Rodriguez at WSOF 35. Some highlights are below:
On being a former WSOF featherweight champion: “It was a high moment in my career – to be the world champion. I reached one of my objectives. But I have much more to achieve…This next step puts me back on the path toward the belt.”
On losing his second fight with Lance Palmer: “I watched that (second) fight repeatedly, and I don’t see how he won, but I’m not one to complain or cry. If the judges gave him the win, it’s because I wasn’t able to get a finish. So I’m moving forward. Now I plan to have a good fight so I can go after Palmer or whoever is holding the belt.”
On not being on the main card: “Fighting on the undercard doesn’t bother me at all; I’m earning the same amount of money as if I was fighting on the main card. So it doesn’t matter to me. It’s a fight. My objective is always the same: to win and to put on a good show for the fans. It’s what I’ve always done. My opponent (also) changed. It’s now Steven Rodriguez. I don’t know much about him. But I’ll be ready. I’m always ready to face off against any style. I’m not too concerned about him. I focus on myself and on what I can do. I’ll look to use my skill set in the best possible way, for the best possible results.”
