According to TV Line, ABC has canceled Roseanne following a racist Tweet from Barr aimed at former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett. Soon after, it was confirmed that Wanda Sykes quit her job as a producer on the show, due to the Tweet.

ABC president Channing Dungey issued the following statement…

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”

Barr’s TV daughter, Sara Gilbert, released her own statement on the situation…

“This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love — one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.”

The Roseanne revival was a hit, as the two-episode premiere averaged 18.2 million total viewers and a 5.2 demo rating, making it the highest-rated comedy telecast in three-and-a-half years. Four days after the premiere, the show was given the greenlight for another season.

Disney CEO Robert Iger commented on the cancellation…

“There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing.”
