Alien Series Officially Coming to FX, Noah Hawley Developing Show
The long-rumored Alien series is official, with Noah Hawley developing the show to air on FX. Disney announced on Thursday during its Investor Day 2020 presentation that Hawley is developing and executive producing a TV series for the network based on the Alien franchise. Franchise creator Ridley Scott will executive produce.
The series, per Disney, is set “not too far in the future here on Earth.” It’s not clear if this will be a separate continuity than the main Alien films or set directly in the existing universe. Hawley has adapated his share of media properties into TV shows for FX in Fargo and Legion, but neither of those shows were set within the Fargo or X-Men film universes.
Alien remains a landmark film franchise for sci-fi horror, though it has fallen on hard times as of late. Scott’s first prequel film Prometheus was liked by critics and was a success, though the box office was still a bit of a disappointment from what Fox expected. And 2017’s Alien: Covenant was a disappointment on critical and commercial levels, grossing just $74.3 million in the US and $240.9 million worldwide on a $110 million budget.
