In an interview with Total Film magazine (via Bloody Disgusting), director Andy Muschietti revealed that since several members of the 2017 cast of IT grew up in between the filming of that movie and Chapter Two, some drastic measures had to be taken to make sure they were the right age for flashbacks in the new movie. That means that like Marvel’s done for Samuel L. Jackson in Captain Marvel, IT: Chapter Two will be using digital effects to de-age its young cast.

He said: “Well, it’s better to shoot it two years later than five years later. But in those two years, they grew up quite a bit. Not all of them. Sophia looks exactly the same. Jaeden looks pretty much the same. Finn grew up quite a bit, and he’s a tall guy. But from the beginning, we knew that that would be part of the budget, the visual effects to address that. So we’re going to de-age the kids.

Chapter Two arrives to kill off Pennywise once and for all (hopefully, for Derry’s sake) on September 6. The sequel stars Bill Skarsgard, James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, Andy Bean, Jaeden Martell, Sophia Lillis, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Finn Wolfhard, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Jackson Robert Scott, Teach Grant, Jess Weixler, Will Beinbrink and Xavier Dolan.
