Andy Muschietti to Direct Netflix’s The Howling Remake

It director Andy Muschietti is stepping back into horror after The Flash, confirming that he will direct a Netflix remake of The Howling. That Hashtag Show reports that Muschietti confirmed during a panel with the cast of Underwater that once he’s done with DC’s Flash movie, he will be teaming up with the streaming service to direct the remake.

The Howling was released in 1984 and spawned a franchise consisting of eight films in total. The original was directed by Joe Dante and starred Dee Wallace, Patrick Macnee, Dennis Dugan, and Robert Picardo. It was based on Gary Brandner’s 1977 horror novel and was a box office success with $17.9 million on a $1 million budget. It followed a journalist in Los Angeles (Wallace) who is has a nealry fatal encounter with a serial killer and heads to a mental retreat in the woods, not realizing that the retreat is full of werewolves.
