Anne Hathaway played Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, but when she auditioned she thought she was played a very different DC antiheroine in Harley Quinn. Hathaway spoke wqith BBC One (per JoBlo and talked about how when she auditioned for Christopher Nolan, she thought she under the belief she would be playing Harley.

“I came in and I had this lovely Vivian Westwood kind of beautiful-but-mad tailoring top with stripes going everywhere,” Hathaway said. “And I wore these flat Joker-ey looking shoes. And I was trying to give Chris these crazy little smiles.”

She continued, “About an hour into the meeting he [Nolan] said ‘Well, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you this, but it’s Catwoman.’ And I was shifting into a different gear. ‘Now ok, we’re slinky. We’re slinky. And I hate my shirt. I love my shirt, but I hate it right now. We’re slinky.'”

Hathaway ended up scoring the role despite the miscommunication and played Selina Kyle opposite Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Zoe Kravitz will be the next to take on the role in live-action, with the actress set to star opposite Robert Pattinson in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
