Beale Street Star In Talks to Join New Candyman Film

Teyonah Parris If Beale Street Could Talk Teyonah Parris stars as Ernestine Rivers in Barry Jenkins' IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK, an Annapurna Pictures release.

Teyonah Parris, who starred in the Oscar-nominated If Beale Street Could Talk, is in talks to co-star in the Candyman “spiritual sequel.” THR reports that Parris is in talks to play the art dealer girlfriend of Yahya Abdul-Mateen in the film. Abdul-Mateen is playing an artist who becomes obsessed with the legend of the Candyman.

Nia DaCosta is directing the film, which was written by Jordan Peele ands Win Rosenberg. It is set in the the neighborhood of the original film, the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.

Peele is producing the film, which MGM will produce and finance with Universal handling the domestic theatrical distribution. Production kicks off in the spring with a June 12th, 2020 release date set.
