Sony Pictures is taking an interesting route for the iconic FromSoftware video game, Bloodborne. A new R-rated animated feature based on the video game is in the works, as announced during Monday’s Sony Pictures keynote presentation at the 2026 CinemaCon.

The upcoming project is being produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and content creator Seán McLoughlin, aka JackSepticEye. Plot details on the feature are being kept under wraps.

The 2015 video game features a lone hunter traveling into a horror-filled gothic city full of deranged mobs and nightmarish creatures lurking around every corner. The game has received high praise for its challenging gameplay and nuanced worlds that players have spent exploring for years.

The game was developed by FromSoftware and first released by Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2015. It’s the latest collaboration between Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, which is also currently working on the Helldivers movie at Sony, the live-action Uncharted movie, Peacock’s hit Twisted Metal series, based on the games, and the acclaimed HBO series, The Last of Us.

Justin Lin was also on hand at CinemaCon to talk about the new Helldivers movie, which is about to start production. Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Minecraft) stars in the new video game adaptation.

Bloodborne Animated Feature Will Be R-Rated

McLoughlin is a longtime champion of the gothic world of Bloodborne, and he plans to bring his passion from the game world to the upcoming animated feature. The YouTuber and content creator has a community of over 48 million fans.

Lyrical Media is a New York-based company founded by Alexander Black that develops, produces, and finances “unique stories across multi-media formats,” including those in film, television, video games, podcasts, and graphic novels. Some of Lyrical’s upcoming projects include The Death of Robin Hood, directed by Michael Sarnoski and starring Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer. Lyrical’s upcoming slate also includes Osgood Perkins’ next feature, The Young People, being released by NEON, and Adam Wingard’s new action-thriller, Onslaught, being released by A24.

The new Bloodborne animated movie does not yet have an official release date, but it will be released by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
