Boxer Oleksandr Usyk Joins The Smashing Machine Opposite The Rock

A24’s Mark Kerr biopic The Smashing Machine has added the new Undisputed World Heavyweight Boxing Champion in Oleksandr Usyk. Deadline reports that Usyk, who defeated Tyson Fury by split decision last weekend to become the undisputed heavyweight title, will john Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the MMA biopic.

Usyk will play MMA legend Igor Vovchanchyn in the film, which stars Johnson as Kerr. Emily Blunt is set to co-star in the film as well, with Benny Safdie serving as writer and director.

A24 revealed the first still from the film, featuring Johnson as Kerr. A24 is financing and producing the project alongside The Rock’s production company, Seven Bucks Production, Safdie’s Out for the Count shingle, Eli Bush, and David Koplan.
