Brendan Fraser Is Open to Another Mummy Film

Brendan Fraser hasn’t tangled with The Mummy in almost 15 years, but he’d be interested in coming back for another go around. Fraser is undergoing a new career high right now for his role in the upcoming film The Whale, and he recently spoke with Variety for a new interview in which he discussed his time on The Mummy franchise, noting that he would be up for a fourth entry.
“I don’t know how it would work,” Fraser said about a potential fourth entry, which would be the first since 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. “But I’d be open to it if someone came up with the right conceit.”
Fraser also talked about what he thought went wrong with Universal’s attempt to reboot the franchise into a Cinematic Universe with the Tom Cruise-starring The Mummy in 2017, noting, “It is hard to make that movie. The ingredient that we had going for our Mummy, which I didn’t see in that film, was fun. That was what was lacking in that incarnation. It was too much of a straight-ahead horror movie. The Mummy should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary.”
The Whale premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival in September and has put Fraser in the thick of discussions regarding the Best Actor Oscar race. It is set to release on December 9th in the US.
