Charlie Cox doesn’t believe that a revival of Daredevil is particularly likely, as much as he hopes for it. Cox played Matt Murdock (and his alter ego) in Netflix’ Marvel series and the team-up event series The Defenders, which (along with The Punisher, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage) were all canceled as Netflix and Marvel severed their relationship. There have been hopes from fans that the series could come back on Hulu or Disney+ once Marvel is legally able to, but Cox told ComicBook.com that he doesn’t expect it to happen.

“I don’t feel that way, no,” Cox said. “And, I don’t know why I don’t feel that way. But, I haven’t been given any reason to believe that. And, from a cynical point of view, it just feels like maybe I’m trying to protect myself, ’cause I’d love nothing more than to do it again.”

Cox noted that the cast has all largely moved on, making schedules hard: “When you make a television show, it’s so complicated, and people’s schedules are so difficult, and contracts are so difficult. So that’s why when, as an actor, when you sign onto a TV show, you sign six years of your life away. Because, if you don’t do that, it becomes too complicated to try and get all these moving pieces.”

Cox isn’t the only person who is keeping fans’ expectations for a revival low. Krysten Ritter, who starred in Jessica Jones, said last June that she doesn’t expect to reprise the character and added, “I feel good about closing the door.”

Still, Cox has some hope, even if he acknowledges it isn’t likely. He told the site, “You know, maybe it would just be one of those things where it just comes together and works really, really well.”
