Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Set To Co-Star in New A24 Psychological Thriller Breakthrough

Deadline reports that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is lining up another project with A24, the production company behind his upcoming film, The Smashing Machine. Johnson is reportedly in talks to co-star in the upcoming A24 psychological thriller, Breakthrough.

The script was written by Zeke Goodman. The story is set in Southern California in the early 2000s, following an alienated young man who comes under the influence of a motivational guru, whose charm masks his morally questional methods of manipulation, concealing his darker nature. Johnson is said to be in talks for the role of the motivational guru, and a casting call is said to be underway for the lead role and the other supporting players.

No director has been tapped for the project yet. It will be produced and financed by A24. Stacey Sher also produces the film under Shiny Penny Productions alongside Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions banner. Jacob Epstein and Justin Wolf are executive producing the project through Lighthouse Management and Media.

Goodman previously starred in I Know What You Did Last Summer television reboot for Amazon’s Prime Video. The upcoming A24 film, The Smashing Machine, starring The Rock as Mark Kerr, from director Benny Safdie, hits theaters on October 3.
