Deadline reports that FX has ordered a pilot for Y, based on the comic series Y: The Last Man. The series will be executive produced by Michael Green, Aida Mashaka Croal, Brian K. Vaughan, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force. It has been in the planning stages at the network for years. Green wrote the adaptation and will be the co-showrunner with Aida Mashaka Croal, with Melina Matsoukas directing the pilot.

Here’s a synopsis: In Y, all of the men are dead. But one. Based on the DC comic book series by Vaughan and Pia Guerra, Y traverses a world of women — exploring gender, race, class and survival.

The series has taken a long time to get going because of Green’s schedule. Work progressed after Green stepped down as the showrunner of Starz’s American Gods. FX Networks CEO John Landgraf previously praised Green’s script and expressed optimism of it moving forward back in January.

The comic series started in 2002 and ran for sixty issues. It won three Eisner Awards and the first Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story, which went to Y: The Last Man, Volume 10.
