James Gunn Says Superman Assembly Cut Has Been Done For a While
The assembly cut of Superman has been completed for a while, according to James Gunn. Gunn is writing and directing the DC Universe film and he confirmed on Threads that he finished the assembly cut “long ago,” as you can see below.
The assembly cut of a film is the first cut of a film put together after production to begin the post-production process, and does not include visual effects, sound editing or other post-production work. The film still has a lengthy post-production process to go through before it’s release, which is scheduled for July 11th, 2025.
The film is the first film of the new DC Universe under Gunn and Peter Safran. Gunn is directing the film from his own script. David Corenswet stars as the titular superhero alongside Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Milly Alcock (Supergirl), Wendell Pierce (Perry White), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer).
