DC’s Krypton Renewed for Second Season
SyFy announced today in an official press release that the scripted TV characters based on the DC Universe, Krypton< has been renewed for a season season. The renewal comes ahead of the show's first season finale set for this week. Per SyFy, the show averaged 1.8 million viewers L3 per week to date. Also, the show was the most-watched debut season among total viewers for an original series for the network since Ascension in 2014. Additionally, it was the most-watched season for any scripted series on the network since Defiance in 2015.
Krypton is the latest show to renewal from SyFy following Happy! getting a second season pickup, The Magician getting a fourth season and the 12 Monkeys series receiving a fourth season as well. Channel Zero will also receive its fourth season later this fall.
Krypton is a Warner Horizon Scripted Television project. It’s executive produced by David S. Goyer (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) through his Phantom Four banner, along with Cameron Welsh, who also serves as the showrunner.
Season 2 for the show is expected to debut later in 2019. Here’s an official synopsis for the first season:
KRYPTON is set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet. The series follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather, as a young man who is faced with a life and death conflict – save his home planet or let it be destroyed to restore the fate of his future grandson. In Season 1, with Krypton’s leadership in disarray and the House of El ostracized, Seg found himself in a difficult position: redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves, while being challenged by familiar DC characters Brainiac and Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange.
