The sequel to 2018’s Tomb Raider is gaining steam, with Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green set to write and direct the Alicia Vikander-starring film. THR reports that Green will script and helm the film, which will be a follow-up to Vikander’s first outing as Lara Croft. Green has since confirmed the news, posting to Twitter:

Ben Wheatley was originally set to direct the film, but the delay of the project due to the pandemic meant that Warner Bros. bowed out of the film, leaving it in MGM’s hands. Wheatley has since exited the film.

The 2018 film grossed $274.7 million worldwide and told Lara Croft’s origin story as the daughter of an eccentric adventurer who goes on a quest to find him after he disappeared when she was a teenager. In addition to Vikander, the film starred Dominic West, Walton Goggins, and Daniel Wu.

There’s no release date set for the sequel at this time.
