Tomb Raider 2 Gets Director, Release Date Slated for March 2021

It looks like the rebooted Tomb Raider film franchise with Alicia Vikander isn’t quite dead yet. Deadline reports that Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Free Fire) has been tapped to direct the planned sequel to the 2018 film.
Alicia Vikander is reportedly going to reprise the role of Lara Croft. MGM is looking for a March 19, 2021 release date for the film. The film is written by Amy Jump, and Graham King is producing the project under the GK Films banner alongside Elizabeth Cantillon.
Wheatley is currently in post-production on his latest film, Rebecca, for Working Title Films. The 2018 movie didn’t do well in the US, grossing only $58.2 million off a $94 million budget. However, the film did better overseas, grossing $216 million, for a worldwide total of about $274.6 million.
Production on the Tomb Raider sequel is expected to start early next year.
