After Captain Marvel made over $1 billion at the box office, it was certain that a sequel was coming. And that sequel is officially in the works. THR reports that Marvel has officially beguin development on the film, which will see Brie Larson reprising her role as Carol Danvers.

According to the site, Megan McDonnell is in advanced negotiations to write the film. McDonnell is part of the writing team for WandaVision. The first Captain Marvel was written by directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck alongside Nicole Perlman, Meg LeFauve and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Boden and Fleck will not direct the sequel, but are keeping with the MCU and are in talks to direct a Disney+ series. Disney is seeking a female director to helm the film.

The only thing known about the new film at this point is that it will take place in the present day as opposed to the original’s 1990s setting. There was speculation early on that the twenty-year period that Carol spent out in space dealing with interstellar problems may be the focus, but that is apparently not the case.

There is no release date as of yet for Captain Marvel 2.
