Matt Reeves is at work on a sequel to The Batman, but he’s also reportedly developing spinoffs for members of the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery. THR reports that Reeves, who wrote and directed the 2022 DC Films hit, is “quietly” meeting with writers and directors in order to build out movies focused on Batman villains.

The report notes that the films (which would be in addition to the upcoming HBO Max series focused on Colin Farrell’s Penguin) will explore characters that are both well-known and more obscure. The Scarecrow, Clayface. and Professor Pyg were specifically mentioned in the report. All of the projects are still in the very early stages and likely do not have greenlights yet.

The Batman was a bright spot in Warner Bros.’ occasionally-rocky road with DC, grossing $770.8 million worldwide and garnering fantastic reviews. Since then, Warner Bros. has merged with Discovery and has made some decisions that have resonated poorly with fans, such as the cancellation of the Batgirl HBO Max film despite being fully shot and the axing of Blue Beetle and other projects. The latest DC film, Black Adam, opens this weekend and is targeting around $70 million domestically in its first weekend.
