The Batman finally arrives in theaters next week, and Matt Reeves says he has had discussions about a potential sequel. Reeves, who directed the upcoming DC Film, was in the red carpet for the movie’s UK premiere and confirmed that he’s spoken with Warner Bros. about a potential follow-up.

Asked about the potential of more entries, Reeves said (per CS.net), “I hope so, we’ll see — I mean for sure. I mean look, you don’t make number one as if there’s going to be number two. You have to make number one as if you’re swinging for the fences and it has to be a movie that stands and lives on its own.”

He went on to say, “But I really believe in what we’ve done and I’d be excited to tell more stories. We are already telling other stories in the streaming space, we’re doing stuff on HBO Max, we’re doing a Penguin show with Colin which is gonna be super cool, and we’re doing some work on some other stuff too. But we have started talking about another movie, but, y’know, right now we’ll just put it out in the world and I’ll try to enjoy this.”

The film comes from a script Reeves co-wrote with Peter Craig and stars Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell. Releasing on March 4th, it is described as follows:

From Warner Bros. Pictures comes Matt Reeves’ The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson in the dual role of Gotham City’s vigilante detective and his alter ego, reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne. Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies—Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright)—amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano).
