O.J. Simpson Dead At 76

O.J. Simpson has passed away at the age of 76 in Las Vegas following a battle with cancer. Simpson’s family announced the news on X today.

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer.

He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.

TMZ reports that Simpson was reportedly battling prostate cancer for years, and made the shift to hospice care within the last few months.

Simpson is, of course, best known for being charged with the brutal and horrendous murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, back in the 1990s. The murder trial, dubbed at the time as the Trial of the Century, captivated the country and led to his controversial acquittal. The trial also made stars out of his “dream team” of lawyers, including Johnnie Cochran. His infamous car chase through Los Angeles prior to surrendering to police aired on TV across the country and became one of the most largest shared viewing TV events in history.

Prior to that, Simpson was a college football star at USC, winning the Heisman trophy, then becoming a Buffalo Bills legend in the NFL. After retiring from football, he went on to establish himself as a successful actor.

Following his murder trial acquittal, Simpson was arrested again in 2007 for breaking into a hotel room with weapons and others and trying to retrieve sporting memorabilia that he claimed was stolen from him. He was convicted and spent 10 years in prison, being released in 2017.

After that, Simpson lived a relatively quiet life. He was fairly active on social media, but did begin to look frail earlier this year.
