One Battle After Another and Sinners topped the list of winners at the 98th Academy Awards, with One Battle After Another taking home Best Picture. Sunday’s award ceremony honored the best films of 2025 and saw Paul Thomas Anderson’s film take home six wins, while Sinners won five.
In addition to Best Picture, One Battle won Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay (both Anderson), Best Supporting Actor (Sean Penn), Best Editing (Andy Jurgensen), and the new Best Casting award (Cassandra Kulukundis). Meanwhile, Sinners won Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, Best Cinematography (Best Cinematography), Best Score (Ludwig Göransson), and Best Original Screenplay (Ryan Coogler).
2026 was a good Oscar night for horror; in addition to Sinners, both Weapons and Frankenstein took home wins. Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for Weapons while Frankenstein won three awards for Costume Design, Makeup/Hairstyling, and Production Design. The other multi-award film was KPop Demon Hunters, which won Best Animated Film and Best Song.
A couple of the heavily-nominated films were mostly empty-handed. Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet won Best Actress for Jessie Buckley, but nothing else despite eight nominations. And Marty Supreme (nine nominations) was left winless, while Sentimental Value only won for Best International Film.
