Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Trailer Reveals Premiere Date, Natalie Dormer’s Demonic Role

The first trailer for Showtime’s Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is here, with a look at Natalie Dormer’s demonic role and a premiere date. Showtime revealed the trailer on Monday at the TCA winter press tour, and you can see it below.

The trailer delves into the setting — 1938 Los Angeles — and offers a look at our characters. Primarily, that consists of Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto), his partner Lewis Michener (Nathan Lane), and the shape-shifting demon Magda (Dormer). Dormer has said that Madga is an “agent of chaos” who can “sow the seeds of disorder.”

The show premieres on April 26th at 10 PM ET/PT on Showtime. The synopsis reads:

A spiritual descendant of the original Penny Dreadful story set in Victorian-era London, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels opens in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) and his partner Lewis Michener (Nathan Lane) become embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.
