Sam Neill To Appear in The Legend of Zelda in Final Film Role, Young Rock‘s Uli Latukefu To Play Ganondorf

More of the cast has been revealed for Nintendo and Sony’s upcoming live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, per Deadline. Uli Latukefu, best known for his role as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the sitcom Young Rock, will portray the villainous Ganondorf (aka Ganon) in the movie.

Also set to appear in the cast is the late actor Sam Neill, who passed away last month. This will be one of, if not the last, film roles for Neill. It’s unknown which character he’s set to portray in the upcoming feature.

Australian actor Latukefu reportedly signed a multi-picture deal to portray Ganondorf. He’s best known for his portrayal of Dwayne Johnson from his late teens to his mid-to-late 20s in the hit NBC sitcom Young Rock over its three seasons.

Other new additions to the cast include Dichen Lachman (Severance, Jurassic World Dominion) and Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale). It’s said that Strahovski will be portraying a queen character. Meanwhile, Lachhman portrays Impa, the bodyguard and advisor for Princess Zelda.

They join the cast opposite Bo Bragason as the titular Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. The plot of the movie is still deeply under wraps. Casting details for the production have also been a closely guarded secret, such as Latukefu as Ganondorf, until now.

In The Legend of Zelda video games, the warrior and hero Link fights to save the land of Hyrule from the evil warlord-turned-demon king Ganon. The first game was released on the Nintendo console in 1986. The video game franchise has sold over 150 million copies over the last several decades.

Wes Ball directs the upcoming feature, which is being produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad. T.S. Nowlin wrote the latest draft of the script. Nintendo is co-producing and financing the movie with Sony Pictures. It’s due out in theaters on May 7, 2027.
