It appears Marvel Studios’ upcoming theatrical X-Men reboot has found its Emma Frost. Deadline reports that Ready or Not franchise star Samara Weaving has been cast to play the powerful telepath in the upcoming feature.

Deadline reports that director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige met with multiple candidates, but they eventually tapped Weaving for the role earlier this week. Additionally, it’s said that the casting of Frost had “the most thorough search” for the new cast. Also, it’s said that the final candidates were tested for the role after July Fourth, with Samara Weaving emerging as the top choice.

Emma Frost debuted in the pages of Uncanny X-Men Issue #129 in January 1980. Initially appearing as a supervillain and member of the Hellfire Club, the character would eventually turn over a new leaf, helping to lead the Generation X team and eventually joining the main X-Men team later on.

Frost previously appeared in multiple X-Men live-action movies produced by 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios under Disney). She was portrayed by Tahyna Tozzi in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009. January Jones later portrayed the character in X-Men: First Class in 2011.

Samara Weaving Joins Marvel’s X-Men for Upcoming Big-Screen Reboot

Although Marvel Studios is currently developing a theatrical reboot for Marvel’s Merry Band of Mutants, multiple veterans of the 20th Century Fox X-Men movies will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, reprising their original roles, later this year, including James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, and Ian McKellen as Magneto. Channing Tatum, who also made his big-screen debut as the mutant superhero Gambit in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, also returns.

It appears that Doomsday and likely its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, will serve as a last hurrah for the old cast members before Marvel begins the franchise anew with the upcoming reboot. Marvel Studios’ new X-Men movie is currently in the works and set for release later on.
