Scott Derrickson will be back in the director’s chair for the next Doctor Strange film. THR has confirmed that Derrickson, who directed the first film, has “quietly finalized” a deal to return for the sequel. The studio is still seeking a writer for the film, though it is possible Derrickson could come on board for that as well since he co-wrote the first film with C. Robert Cargill.

Doctor Strange 2 will see Benedict Cumberbatch return to play the Sorcerer Supreme, who will next be seen in Avengers: Endgame. It is believed that Benedict Wong and Rachel McAdams will return as Wong and Christine Palmer, with the end of the first film suggesting Chiwetel Ejiofor could return as Karl Mordo as well. The post-credits sequence of the first Doctor Strange suggested that Mordo could be the villain of the next film, keeping in line with the character’s status as one of Stephen Strange’s greatest nemeses in the comics.

No release date is yet set for the film.
