Steph Curry will not be among the NBA stars appearing in Space Jam 2. The Golden State Warriors star told the New York Times that he turned down an offer to cameo in the film, as a scheduling issue prevented his appearance.

“I know LeBron and Ryan Coogler are going to be doing amazing things. It’s going to be awesome,” Curry said. “Part of it was in terms of things that I had going on. It was just the timing, to be honest. Not being able to commit. And I know Ryan really well. We had a lot of conversations about it.”

Curry said that Coogler, who is producing the film, is a “die-hard” Warriors fan, saying, “He’s at every playoff game,” he said. Added Curry, “Obviously, that’s hard to turn down. The guy does amazing work.”

The film is set to release in 2021, but has had trouble finding NBA talent to appear due to issues with sneaker contracts. Nike is the franchise’s primary brand and Curry is under contract with Under Armour. James Harden, who also turned down a role, is a spokesperson for Adidas.

Terence Nance is directing the film, which LeBron James will star in.
