The global cinema industry convention, CinemaCon, announced today that Oscar-winning filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki will take to the main stage for the first time at the Caesars Palace Colosseum for the 2026 convention, with a special preview from GKIDS and exclusive sneak peek footage of Godzilla Minus Zero. Yamazaki will be taking the main stage on Tuesday, April 14 for the studio presentations that morning.

GKIDS, which was previously acquired by TOHO in 2024, will kick off the Tuesday morning showcase with a “State of the Industry” opening presentation, featuring exclusive sneak preview footage from the upcoming sequel, Godzilla Minus Zero. Director Takashi Yamazaki, who won the 2023 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for its prequel, Godzilla Minus One, will appear live at the convention for the first time in history to introduce the upcoming film.

The exclusive first look will bookend an earlier presentation from 2024, when TOHO President Hiro Matsuoka appeared onstage at CinemaCon to celebrate the film’s release and the 70th anniversary of the Godzilla franchise.

Speaking via a press release, Cinema United President and CEO Michael O’Leary commented, “The future strength of our industry depends on a year-round diverse slate of films that speaks to the broad range of moviegoing audiences around the world. GKIDS exemplifies a commitment to diverse moviegoing choices, and we are thrilled to be working with them.” He continued, “Many thanks to David Jesteadt, the entire GKIDS team, and the visionary filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki for their continued support of theatrical and what is sure to be an incredible show.”

GKIDS President David Jesteadt added, “We are longtime champions of the importance of the shared theatrical experience. We believe there’s no better place to kick off Yamazaki-san’s Godzilla Minus Zero than at CinemaCon with the folks who present that movie magic on the big screen: the cinema owners.”

Godzilla Minus Zero will release theatrically in Japan on Tuesday, November 3. That will be followed by a wide theatrical release across North America starting Friday, November 6.

411 is also set to be on hand for the presentation on Tuesday, April 14, so stay tuned for more updates straight from CinemaCon. You can check out the previously released announcement teaser for the movie below:
