Well, Matt Reeves’ new sequel to The Batman has been delayed again. Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that The Batman II will now be hitting theaters on February 18, 2028, moving back from its originally scheduled October 2027 release date.

The movie recently started filming, with Reeves releasing a new camera test, showcasing star Robert Pattinson in his Batsuit for the motion picture (see below). The sequel has been in the works for a while, with Warner Bros. first announcing the sequel and Reeves and Pattinson’s return at CinemaCon 2022 in April of that year, shortly after the first movie’s release.

However, the project has undergone numerous delays before filming finally started this year. The first movie made $369 million domestically and $766 million worldwide against a reported $200 million budget.

The sequel’s new release date has also affected another major event movie from Warner Bros. JJ Abrams’ new movie, The Great Beyond, is now moving from November 2026 to The Batman II’s old release date of October 1, 2027. The upcoming feature stars Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Deadline reports that the release date shuffle is due to Paramount Skydance’s pending acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The merger was originally slated to be finished later this fall. However, it’s now facing multiple antitrust lawsuits, including ones from the states of California, New York, and ten others.

The Batman II stars Pattinson, reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, and Andy Serkis returning as Alfred Pennyworth. New cast members include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Sebastian Koch.
