Nintendo, Universal Pictures, and Illumination revealed a new first look at the upcoming CG-animated feature, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, featuring a first look at the iconic dinosaur hero, Yoshi. You can check out the newly revealed trailer below.
Yoshi was previously teased in a post-credit scene at the end of the last movie. Now he fully appears and befriends Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) in the upcoming sequel. Nintendo and Illumination have not yet revealed the voice of Yoshi in the motion picture.
Besides Yoshi, the new footage reveals many characters and references from across the Super Mario Bros. franchise who will be appearing in the sequel. Noticeably, Birdo and Mouser of Super Mario Bros. 2 fame make appearances. The T-Rex and some worlds from Super Mario Odyssey also appear in the new trailer.
Also, it looks like Mario and Luigi will be reverted to babies later during the story, resembling their baby personas in the Yoshi’s Island video games. Also, Yoshi looks to be holding the Nintendo Super Scope during the scene in question. The Super Scope has also made an appearance in the Super Smash Bros. game series as a shooting item that the fighters can pick up and use.
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who directed the first movie, are back to direct the sequel from a screenplay by returning writer Matthew Fogel. Brian Tyler is also back to compose the score.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo, and released worldwide by Universal Pictures in theaters on April 1, 2026.
