Warner Bros. Shifts The Batman Sequel To 2027, Sets Release For Tom Cruise Film
Warner Bros. has made some moves in their release schedule, shifting The Batman’s sequel to 2027 and more. Deadline reports that the studio has pushed the Matt Reeves-directed sequel to The Batman from October 2nd, 2026 to October 1st, 2027.
James Gunn confirmed the news on Threads and explained why, writing in reply to a user asking about it:
“Sure. Yes, it is true. The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already). Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.”
In addition, Warner Bros. has set the next film from Alejandro González Iñárritu in the October 2nd, 2026 date vacated by The Batman. That film stars Tom Cruise, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde and Riz Ahmed and, per the site, “follows the most powerful man in the world who embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
Finally, the studio has switched the release dates for Bong Joon Ho’s sci-fi film Mickey 17 and Ryan Coogler’s period horror film Sinners. Sinners, which stars Michael B. Jordan, is now set to release on April 18th, 2025 while Mickey 17 with Robert Pattinson releases on March 7th, 2025.
