411’s AAA Triplemanía XXXIII Preview

Hello folx, and welcome to 411’s AAA Triplemanía XXXIII preview! Tonight, AAA is at the Arena Ciudad de México, in México City, for Triplemanía! This is the 33rd annual Triplemanía, and the 47th event to be held under the Triplemanía name. Triplemanía was started around the first anniversary of AAA and has been the biggest AAA event of the year ever since. This will be the first AAA Triplemanía under WWE control. Tonight we have a Copa Bardahl, a Six-Person tag match, a Street Fight for the AAA World Tag Team Championships, a Triple Threat match for the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship, a match for the AAA Latin American Championship, and a Fatal Four Way for the AAA Mega Championship. Let’s get to it!

Copa Bardahl

A Copa Bardahl is like a Royal Rumble, but instead of being thrown over the top rope, the participants are eliminated by pinfall. This is the 13th Copa Triplemanía and the fifth to be sponsored by Bardahl. Past winners have included, Laredo Kid, La Hiedra, Taurus, Mr. Iguana, Lady Shani, La Parka, Perro Aguayo Jr., and Latin Lover. With no announced participants, at the time of writing this, I am going to go out a limb here and guess a winner.

The Judgement Day (Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, and Raquel Rodriguez) vs Mr. Iguana, Niño Hamburguesa, and Lola Vice

This match was set up through a backstage segment, where Dominik Mysterio asked Judgement Day for help against Mr. Iguana and Niño Hamburguesa. Raquel Rodriguez was added after talking trash about Lola Vice.

JD McDonagh is a 19-year veteran, and in that time, he has been a one-time BCW Tag Team Champion, a one-time Irish Junior Heavyweight Champion, a one-time NWA Ireland Tag Team Champion, a one-time NWA Ireland Junior Heavyweight Champion, a one-time OTT No Limits Champion, a two-time and inaugural OTT World Champion, a one-time PBW Tag Team Champion, a one-time Progress Tag Team Champion, a one-time NWA International Lightweight Tag Team Champion, a one-time TNT World Champion, a one-time NXT Cruiserweight Champion, and a two-time and current WWE Tag-Team Champion.

Raquel Rodriguez has been wrestling for nine years, and in that time, she has been the 2021 Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic winner, a two-time and inaugural NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion, a one-time NXT Women’s Champion, and a six-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion.

Mr. Iguana is a 16-year veteran, and in that time, he has been a one-time and inaugural Kaoz Tag Team Champion, a one-time Kaoz Mixed Tag Team Champion, and a one-time and current AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champion.

Niño Hamburguesa is a 16-year veteran, and in that time, he has been the 2019 and 2022 Copa Triplemanía winner, a one-time AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champion, and the 2025 Rey de Reyes winner.

Lola Vice has been wrestling for three years, and in that time, she has been the 2023 NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament winner.

I like the idea of Judgement Day as an invading rudo stable, something for the technicōs of AAA to come together and fight against. That would allow for the WWE World Tag Team Championships to be defended on AAA events, to have AAA teams on Raw and PLEs, and also The Judgement Day would make good opponents for Pagano & Psycho Clown if they win the titles tonight. Rodriguez would be a welcome addition to the AAA Women’s division, or we could see Rordirguez or Perez teaming with Balor or McDonagh and winning the Mixed Tag Team Championships. Iguana has been catching fire with the WWE audience (my wife’s first wrestling merch request was his t-shirt.) But I don’t see a team of Iguana, Hamburgesa, and Vice getting a win here. Plus if they pin Iguana, then Judgement Day can claim a shot at the mixed Tag Team Championships.

El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. vs El Mesías

El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. beat Mecha Wolf at Verano de Escándalo to earn this title shot. Though they have been in multi-man matches and tag team matches, this will be the first one-on-one match between the two.

El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. is a 16-year veteran, and in the time, he has been the 2010 Torneo De Parejas Juniors Bicentenario winner, a one-time XWW Tag Team Champion, a one-time FMLL Tag Team Champion, the 2020 Global Tag League winner, a two-time GHC Tag Team Champion, a one time GHC National Champion, a one time GHC Heavyweight Champion, a one-time UWE Tag-Team Champion, the 2023 Torneo Supreme winner, a one-time and current TWC Tag Team Champion, and a one-time and current The Crash Tag-Team Champion. It’s crazy to think about how long El Mesías has been wrestling, I remember when he popped up in TNA to feud with Abyss! He has been around long enough to have a storied past with El Hijo’s dad Dr. Wagner Jr. I think this is another match were we will see who WWE/AAA is going to be pushing going forward. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. is a guy you can build around, give him a couple of years working his way up the card in AAA, while gaining exposure to the WWE audience, and he will be primed to move to the WWE and fit right into the upper card. A win here will be the start of that push.

Street Fight for the AAA World Tag Team Championships
Pagano & Psycho Clown vs Los Garza

After coming up short on the 8/1 SmackDown, Pyscho Clown declared he needed a crazier partner and challenged Los Garza to a Street Fight against himself and Pagano. The two teams faced each other in a Six-Man Tag Team match at Worlds Collide, and then again, in a Four-Way Tag Team match at, AAA Triplemanía Regia 2025, in which Los Garza won the AAA World Tag Team Championships, since then Pagano, Psyhco Clown, and Mr. Iguana beat Legado del Fantasma twice at the WWE SuperShows in Mexico.

Pagano is a 17-year veteran, and in that time, he has been a one-time NLW Mexicano Champion, a one-time Texas Hardcore Tag Team Champion, a one-time Texas Hardcore Heavyweight Champion, a one-time MXW Mixed Tag Team Champion, the Copa Triplemanía XXVII winner, the 2017 Copa Aficion winner, the 2017 Lucha Libra World Cup winner, the 2018 Copa Antonio Peña winner, a one-time AAA World Tag Team Champion, a one time and current NGX Extreme Champion, and a one-time and current WAR City Extreme Champion. Berto is a 13-year veteran, and in that time, he has been a one-time PCLL Tag Team Champion, a one-time WWA World Middleweight Champion, a one-time LyC Tag-Team Champion, a one-time The Crash Tag Team Champion, and a one-time and current AAA World Tag Team Champion.

Los Garza have done a good job since winning the titles, I just wish they would be featured more on SmackDown. If the idea is having WWE wrestlers holding the AAA titles to help give them more exposure, then it would be a good idea to have those wrestlers on SmackDown every week, hell they could have thrown them in the TLC match at SummerSlam. The title defense on the 8/1 SmackDown was good, even with the botch, and hopefully we will start to see more AAA title defenses on WWE events in the future. With that said, I think Pagano & Psycho Clown should pick up the win here, it will be a feel good moment for the crowd. The Street Fight gimmick is in their wheelhouse, we will get to see some brutal action that will run counter to the more athletic style of Los Garza and it should be a fun match.

Triple Threat match for the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship
Faby Apache vs Natalya vs Lady Flammer

Faby Apache returned to AAA, after leaving in 2022, on July 11 and attacked Lady Flammer. Natalya made her AAA debut, at AAA Alianzes, team with Lola Vice to beat the teams of Chik Tormenta & Dalys La Caribeña and Faby Apache & Lady Shani. After the match Natalya and Apache got into a confrontation while Flammer looked on. This match was made official on 08/07/2025.

Faby Apache is a 27-year veteran, and in that time, she has been a one-time Kaoz Women’s Champion, a one-time Sky High of Arsion Chapmion, the 2019 Copa Martha Villalobos winner, the 2016 Women’s Lucha Libra World Cup winner, a one-time AAA World Trios Champion, a four-time AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champion, and a four-time AAA Reina de Reinas Champion. She also holds a 3-2 Luchas de Apuestas record.

Natalya is a 22-year veteran, and in that time, she has been a one-time ECCW Women’s Champion, a two-time Stampede Women’s Pacific Champion, a one-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, a one-time WWE Divas’ Champion, and a one-time WWE Women’s Champion. She holds the Guinness Book of World Records for: Most appearances on PPV for a female WWE Wrestler, most matches for a female WWE Wrestler, most wins by a female WWE Wrestler, most WWE Wrestlemania appearances by a female WWE Wrestler, most WWE Raw matches, and most WWE SmackDown matches. She is also a member of the Canadian Pro-Wrestling Hall of Fame and a two-time member of the Canadian Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Lady Flammer is a 15-year veteran, and in that time, she has been a one-time and inaugural Kaoz Women’s Tag Team Champion, the 2013 and 2014 Copa Juvenil LLF winner, a one-time LLF Tag Team Champion, a one-time LLF Champion, a one-time The Crash Women’s Champion, a one-time Promociones Universal Women’s Champion, a one-time AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champion, and a one-time and current AAA Reina de Reinas Champion. She also holds a 5-0 Luchas de Apuestas record.

Flammer has been champion for 735 days, and she is defending against two long-time veterans and fellow second-generation wrestlers in Faby Apache and Natalya. Much like the other matches tonight, this is going to be telling of how much of an influence the WWE is going to have in AAA booking and also who they are looking to help carry the company. Flammer is only 29, and that means she has more long-term upside than Apache or Natalya, but she has also been champion for two years, and it might be time to change things up. I honestly wouldn’t mind a Natalya run here. It surprised me that she has only been a WWE Women’s Champion twice; I could have sworn she had more runs with the title. I think she would make a good rudo for the AAA women to go against, and would be a good person to help get them used to wrestling for a global audience. Apache winning could be the story of the long-time veteran returning home to the house she helped build. While there could be a good story in Apache chasing either challenger for the title, I feel like Apache is getting the win here, and then they can continue building a feud with both Flammer, who is part of the future of the division, and Natalya, who wants to add another championship to her list of accomplishments.

Four-Way match for the AAA Mega Championship

El Grande Americano vs Dragon Lee vs Dominik Mysterio vs Vikingo

This match was made official after Dominik attacked Dragon Lee and Vikingo at an AAA event in July. El Grande Americano made his AAA debut on the same show, winning a match against Octagon Jr.

El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser) is a 17-year veteran, and in that time, he has been the 2009 CWN Tag team Tournament winner, a one-time EWP Tag Team Champion, a one-time Great Bear Grand Champion, a one-time GSW Tag Team Champion, a one-time International NCW Cruiserweight Champion, a one-time NFC First Fighter Chapmion, a one0time PWF North-European Champion, the 2014 Mittledeutschland Cup winner, the 2015 Four Nations Cup winner, a two-time wXw World Tag Team Champion, a one-time wXw Unified World Wrestling Champion, a two-time NXT Tag Team Champion, and a one-time and current WWE Speed Champion.

El Hijo del Vikingo has been wrestling for eight years, and in that time he has been, a one-time The Crash Heavyweight Champion, a one-time Dreamwave Alternative Champion, the 2019 Impact World cup of Wrestling winner, a one-time Warrior Wrestling Lucha Champion, the 2017 Llave a la Gloria tournament winner, the 2019 Copa Antonio Peña winner, the 2019 Men’s Lucha Capital winner, a two-time AAA World Trios Champion, the 2024 Rey de Reyes winner, and a two-time and current AAA Mega Champion.

From recent reports, El Grande Americano is expected to get a decent push in AAA, and this match can be a real test on if he can hang in the main event, I don’t think he is winning here, but he should get a good amount of time to shine and Kaiser can show what he can do under the mask. Dragon Lee has floundered in WWE. He puts on good matches, but hasn’t been treated as a serious threat. A reset in AAA should be good for him. He can get a chance to showcase his skills and hopefully gain some popularity, before hopefully getting a better run in the WWE. Dominik has slowly built himself up from being Rey’s kid to one of the most over and hated heels in the business. A win here would help further his story and give him something else to gloat over and rub in Rey Mysterio’s face. Vikingo’s title win, a few months ago, didn’t come off great to the fans in attendance; it seemed to be an overbooked mess, which has kind of been AAA’s booking style for a long time. I think Vikingo is part of the future of both AAA and WWE, but that win didn’t do him any favors. I think a title change here and letting him go on the chase would be better for him, and if it goes to Dom, then AAA gets exposure every Monday night, and we could get a AAA Mega Championship match on a major WWE PLE. I am going with Dom for the win here, and I might be wrong, but I honestly think it’s the best option out of the four.
