Backstage Details On Discussions Between Disney & WWE

Mark Shapiro said this week that WWE has been in talks with Disney for some special events in 2027, and a new report has some details on the matter. As noted, the TKO COO made the comments at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference on Tuesday. He noted, “we’re working with The Walt Disney Company on some special events around Disney and WWE and bringing those two audiences together since, of course, what do they have in common? Family.”
According to WrestleVotes on Fightful Select, sources in WWE said that the discussions aren’t new and that WWE has been interested in doing something with Disney since before they signed their five-year deal to bring WWE PLEs to ESPN Unlimited.
The source told the outlet that nothing is official yet, but that there have been talks about more than simply WWE-branded events taking place at Disney properties in Orlando. There was said to be an idea of using the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, which could be used for WWE events or potential “festivals” or fan experiences. WWE has also considering doing something similar to ESPN Fan House, the engagement hub launched earlier this year.
The report adds that WWE talents are expected to begin appearing on Disney+ programming over the next year. And finally, the source speculated (emphasis on the word “speculated”) that it could make business sense to have a WWE-themed Disney cruise line experience at some point in the future.
