Backstage Notes on Plans for AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch, If Their WrestleMania Match Is Still On

Last night’s WWE Raw saw AJ Lee make her TV return, setting up a match with Becky Lynch for WWE Elimination Chamber 2026. Earlier reports indicated that a matchup between Lee and Lynch was planned for WrestleMania 42. However, according to Dave Meltzer on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Lynch and Lee at Elimination Chamber is expected to lead into their showcase bout at WrestleMania 42.

According to Meltzer, the match between Lee and Lynch at Elimination Chamber later this month will “all play out” to get them in the ring at WrestleMania 42. He stated, “I expected this match at Mania, but I was told that there’s a reason it’s here, and the story goes until Mania. I was just basically told, I went, ‘I thought this was going to be at Mania?’ ‘Don’t worry. It all plays out to get there.”

Meltzer speculated that since WWE started running the angle last night, this direction for WrestleMania 42 “probably won’t be changed.”

Becky Lynch vs. AJ Lee for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title goes down at WWE Elimination Chamber 2026. The event is slated for Saturday, February 28. The premium live event will be held at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. It will air live on the ESPN App in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.
