Backstage Update on Possible WWE Netflix-Peacock Cooperation Over Saturday Night’s Main Event

With Saturday Night’s Main Event streaming on Peacock in the U.S. and Netflix internationally, some have naturally speculated that the two streamers could cooperate, or that the show could switch streamers, as the WWE library is eventually expected to domestically since no longer being available on Peacock.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio (via Wrestling Inc.), there is some truth to the rumors, but it’s not about Netflix simply getting the show. Dave Meltzer says the idea is to have a Peacock hub on Netflix, similar to the way Disney+ and Hulu have hubs to the other on their respective platforms.

That way, yes, Saturday Night’s Main Event would technically be on Netflix via the Peacock hub, but would most likely only be available to subscribers who buy a bundled subscription.

It’s the sort of deal that brings us one step closer to simply buying a package of premium channels on streaming…which used to just be called cable TV. The more things change, the more companies realize that the old ways made them money for a reason. It’s unlikely Netflix would want to stop at just one new hub. And if the ESPN deal really is going south, maybe PLEs could be headed there in five years or so.
