CM Punk On the Importance of Wrestling Intangibles: ‘A Lot of Things Can’t Be Taught’

CM Punk believes there are a lot of important elements of professional wrestling that just cannot be taught and in place from the get-go. Punk has found top success in the industry and has seen many performers come and go (while coming and going himself), and he reflected on what makes a great wrestler in his appearance on Hot Ones: Extra Heat on Netflix.
“I think there’s a lot of things that can’t be taught,” Punk told Sean Evans (per Fightful). “I think some of the greatest wrestling superstars all had something prior to learning how the mechanics work, prior to learning how to run the ropes. I think The Rock is a great example, he’s just somebody who is entertaining.”
He continued, “Intangible is the greatest word I can possibly use. I can teach a monkey how to do this, right? It’s up to that monkey to show a little bit of flair and speciality like, what makes you stand out? Why should people open up their wallet and buy a ticket to come see you?”
Punk is coming off a Undisputed WWE Championship loss to Sami Zayn on last week’s episode of WWE Smackdown.
