– Follow all of my reviews at this link.

– We get highlights from last week’s show.

“Smackdown’s Top Star” Shane Starts Us Off Again…: Shane makes his way to the ring to kick off the show. He plays to the crowd, and starts talking about Sami & Kevin betraying Smackdown. Shane then runs them down for their lack of respect, and was about to fire them last week, until Daniel Bryan put them in a lumberjack match, But Bryan didn’t fire them. Shane calls out Bryan to explain himself. This Bryan fella is pretty over. Bryan says he knows Shane wanted Sami & Kevin fired, but he believes in second chances. He admits that they were selfish, but sometimes Shane’s temper gets him in trouble. Shane agrees, but brings up Kevin beating down Vince, Sami got involved in his HIAC match and then betrayed the Smackdown roster. Bryan says they did that in then and of competition and grabbing the brass ring Bryan says they are talented and if they are fired, they will end up on Raw. Bryan says he was left in charge last week, and isn’t a yes man or a puppet. He recognizes talent and wants to use that talent as best as he can. He needs Shane to trust him. Shane says he does trust him, and likes tonight’s Owens vs. Orton match. But Shane is banning Sami from ringside, and the match will be a NO DQ match. This was a solid opening segment, playing off of last week’s angle and continuing the possible issues between Shane and Bryan. I just wish that Smackdown would go back to doing different openings instead of the tired and cliché opening talking segment. Also, how does banning Sami from ringside but making it no DQ stop him from getting involved?

– Sami and Kevin meet with Bryan, and try to appeal to him since he’s the reasonable one. Bryan refuses to listen to their demands.

– The Usos are out on commentary; Big E gives then pancakes and syrup from his trunks.

Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin vs. New Day (Kofi & Woods) w/Big E: Gable and Woods to begin, they work a fast paced back and forth with Woods taking control and tagging in Kofi for double teams. They work quick tags, Gable cuts off Woods and tags in Benjamin. We go screen in screen as takes the heat on Woods. He and Gable work quick tags, grounding Woods and isolating him in their half of the ring. Woods starts to fire back with chops, but Gable quickly cuts him off, and tags in Benjamin. He hits a spinebuster, continuing to ground the action. Woods starts to fire up again, back to full screen as Woods hits a jawbreaker but Benjamin cuts him off with knee strikes. Gable in and they work double teams again, and knock Kofi to the floor. Gable sets Woods up top, follows him up and Woods fights him off and knocks him to the mat. Woods hits the missile dropkick and both men are down. Wholesale changes to Kofi and Benjamin. Kofi runs wild and lays in strikes and dropkicks on Benjamin. The high cross follows, but Benjamin rolls through and covers for 2. Kofi now hits a clothesline, and hits the boom drop. Benjamin counters trouble in paradise and they spill to the floor. Kofi sends gable to the floor and Woods tags in and hits a dive. Back in and Kofi kicks Benjamin in the head, and New day hits a double team double stomp and picks up the win. New Day defeated Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin @ 8:25 via pin [**¾] This was a pretty good match overall, with an odd finish as they seemingly have cut off Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin on their road to the titles. I really hope we aren’t heading for anther multi-person match, WWE has really done too many of them this year.

– We get footage of Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, and Liv Morgan debuting last week.

– Naomi and Charlotte meet about tonight’s tag match. Natalya arrives and says Charlotte should thank them for helping her save her title last week. Natalya says she will put issues aside, and put the new ladies in their place.

– We get a Bludgeon Brothers promo.

The Bludgeon Brothers (Harper & Rowan) vs. The Hype Bros (Mojo & Zack): The Hype Bros lost last week, but foolishly like Dana Brooke on Raw, want to be destroyed again. They have also been teasing a split for approximately 7-years. The brothers take out Mojo and double team Zack. The double chokeslam finishes Zack. The Bludgeon Brothers defeated The Hype Bros @ 0:42 via pin [NR] This was exactly what it needed to be.

– The Hype Bros are interviewed about their losing ways, leading to Mojo jumping Ryder, beating him down, and telling him the team is done. It’s about time they pulled the trigger on this, but I can’t see either getting much TV time going forward considering how many others barely make TV; there’s no real mid-card scene on this show.

– Mojo walks backstage and gets questioned about attacking Zack. He says things needed to change.

– We get highlights from last week, where Corbin and Roode brawled during the lumberjack match.

– Roode is interviewed, and says Corbin didn’t accidentally hit him. Corbin likes to talk and be a lone wolf, but he is smarter and better than him; someone who will take his US Title. Corbin arrives and says he’s not afraid of him, and Roode tells him to prove it by defending the US Title against him tonight. Corbin declines to acquiesce to his request.

– The Singhs and Jinder Mahal, wearing a suit from the Vince McMahon collection, head to the ring.

– Mahal attacks Styles before the bell and he and the Singhs beat him down. Mahal posts Styles and stands tall.

Handicap Match: AJ Styles vs. The Singh Brothers: Post break and Styles still wants to fight. He attacks, but the numbers quickly get to him and the Singhs take control. They take turns, choking out Styles in the ropes, but Styles fires back up, only to be cut off by double teams. The Singhs go for repeated covers, and then continue their double teams on the champion. Styles starts to fight them off, but a Singh chop blocks Styles to cut him off. They set Styles up top, but Styles fights them off and knocks them to the mat. Styles kicks Mahal to the floor, and catches one Singh and hits the Styles clash off the ropes onto the other Singh and picks up the win. AJ Styles defeated The Singh Brothers @ 3:55 via pin [**] The wrestling was fine, but as an overall segment, I thought it was good. Mahal tried to take out Styles with a sneak attack and use of his inions but failed as the valiant babyface champion overcame the odds to stand tall.

– Mahal lays out both Singh brothers with the Khallas post match, completely losing and almost killing one of them.

– Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, and Liv Morgan are interviewed, and are called the Riott squad. They aren’t here to make friends or audition for Total Divas, they are here to takeover; Natalya, Charlotte, and Naomi better be ready.

Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, and Liv Morgan vs. Natalya, Charlotte, and Naomi: Ruby attacks Natalya right away, laying in clubbing strikes and tagging in Logan. Natalya tags out to Charlotte, and Natalya bails on her team. Liv lays in strikes on Charlotte, but Charlotte cuts her off with chops. We go screen in screen as Charlotte and Naomi work double teams on Liv. Liv manages to cut off Naomi and tags Ruby in. Naomi quickly fights back, tagging in Charlotte. She grounds the action, and covers for 2. Chops follow, but Ruby rushes her to the corner. Back to full screen as Charlotte fires up and clears the Squad to the floor. She follows and works over Ruby and then takes her back in. Charlotte gets knocked back to the floor and Liv tags in, hitting a suplex on Charlotte. Ruby tags back in, grounding Charlotte. Charlotte hits a jawbreaker, but Logan takes out Naomi and slams her to the floor. Liv and Logan slam Naomi to the barricade and then slam her into the steps. Naomi is down and out as Charlotte is left alone. They now triple team Charlotte. Ruby tags back in, and Charlotte starts to fight back, running wild on all three. Logan hits a knee strike and Ruby takes her out with the modified PELE for the win. Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, and Liv Morgan defeated Natalya, Charlotte, and Naomi @ 9:24 via pin [**] The match was just ok, nothing wrong with it, but nothing special. The important thing is that the Riott Squad now only won, but went over strong in doing so. They were smart, divided and conquered, and it worked. Natalya walking out also made sense, since she only cares about herself.

New Fashion Files time, with a Saw theme. The fashion Police and Ascension are chained up in a bathroom. A screen is on the wall, giving then directions to destroy what they love the most or poison gas will kill them. The head of Tully the dead stick horse is there and they rip it apart to find a key, The Ascension offers to sacrifice themselves and are killed by the gas. To be continued

No DQ Match: Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens: They brawl at the bell, and Owens avoids an RKO as they battle to the floor. Orton slams Owens into the steps and then over the announce table. Orton grabs part of the steps and hits Owens with them. Orton grabs a kendo stick, and lays into Owens with it. Owens is a potty mouth as there is some censoring going on as Orton beats the shit out of him. Owens gets a kendo stick and attacks Orton and then posts him. Owens then slams Orton to the barricade; Owens’ arm is busted up from the shots by Orton. Post break and Owens continues to attack with the kendo stick. Owens isn’t angry; he’s just trying to kill the dead cat on Orton’s head. Owens starts to focus on the knee, and hits a senton, covering for 2. Owens lays in more kendo shots, covering for 2. Orton cuts off Owens with uppercuts, but Owens scores with a DDT, covering for 2. Owens misses the cannonball, and Orton sets him up top and follows him up. Orton hits the superplex, covering for 2. The crowd wants tables, but Orton hits a snap slam for 2. Orton now looks for a draping DDT, but then stuns Owens off the ropes and pulls him to the floor for some brawling. Orton now slams Owens onto he announce table, and rolls him back in. Orton calls for the RKO, but Owens powders to avoid that and runs into the crowd. Orton follows, and they brawl deep into the crowd and onto the stage. Sami arrives and attacks Orton with a chair, he’s not at ringside, and it’s no DQ; Shane should clarify his stipulations better. Owens takes Orton back to the ring, but Orton hits the draping DDT. Owens takes out the knee, hits the superkick and follows with the frog splash. 1…2…3. Kevin Owens defeated Randy Orton @ 16:50 via pin [***] Overall this was a good main event, with a violent opening portion and Sami & Kevin outsmarting Shane at the end, and Owens picking up a big win.

– End Scene.

– Thanks for reading.

The final score: review Good

I thought that tonight’s episode of Smackdown was an overall good show, with solid wrestling up and down the card, with quality stories being told. They are slowly building the issues between Shane and Bryan, The Bludgeon Brothers picked up another win while The Hype Bros finally split. AJ picked up a win in fighting babyface form, spoiling the plans of the evil heels, while the Riott Squad was put over strong in week two. The main event match was good, as Kevin & Sami stole one, which will likely lead to more issues between Shane and Bryan.
