Gunther Says He’s Going To Do Everything in His Power To Make Sure John Cena’s Book Ends in Heartbreak

The final opponent of John Cena, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, joined The Rich Eisen Show earlier today to discuss the upcoming matchup. Below are some highlights:

Gunther on Closing the Book of John Cena’s Career

“Let’s let’s compare it to a book. The last chapter will be written on Saturday. It’s just a question. Is it going to be a happy end or is it going to be a heartbreak? And I’m going to do everything in my power that it’s going to be a heartbreak.”

On Wanting To Make John Cena Give Up

“In fact, in fact, he has been pinned many times before. I mean, he’s a wrestler for I don’t know how long his career, 25 something. So, that’s normal. But he hasn’t been submitted. … I’m looking for him? Yeah, I’m looking for him to give up to admit he can’t go no more. That’s what I’m going to go for. And yeah, I think that’s where the drama is as well in that match going into it.”

On How Losing Weight Changed His Style

“First of all the upsides where I felt way lighter and I moved even better and stuff but then yes certain things you do that you did with much more weight on, and I did it when I was lighter I was like this something’s missing here maybe I can’t do that anymore. But yeah that’s live and learn.”

On Being the Guy Who Sends Legends Out to Pasture like Goldberg

“Like I said — I’m there to rile people up. That’s my that’s my role. That’s my job. And wherever there’s a chance I take advantage of that. And I think similar then with the Goldberg situation, it’s something where when you have a legend that has been in the business for such a long time, so many people have memories with them, they want them to go out on a big fanfare, basically. Yeah, it doesn’t always work out like that. I’m going to make sure it doesn’t.”

The Ring General, Gunther, faces John Cena in Cena’s final match later this weekend at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. The card is scheduled for December 13 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. It will air live on Peacock in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.
