Hello, meatbags. Miss me?

Tonight on Collision, the Continental Challenge Cup BEGINS! I’m looking forward to this. Continental Rules matches are right up my alley. I also appreciate that the tournament has a different format using the “blind draw” matchmaking for the first two rounds. The Continental Championship has always been more focused on pure competition.
I personally don’t think there are “too many tournaments” in AEW. “They don’t have story.” The story IS the tournament; you can tell stories in individual matches and throughout a tournament. Pro wrestling is a SIMULATED SPORT. Sports have tournaments. Wrestlers job is to wrestle. I guess it’s not as exciting as an accidental cup of coffee splash.
ONTO THE SHOW! From Colorado Springs, CO! Our hosts are Tony Schiavone, Nigel McGuinness, and Paul Wight!
CONTINENTAL CHALLENGE CUP: Ace Austin v Claudio Castagnoli
Lock-up to start, Claudio with a fireman’s carry… oh, and then STOMPS away. So much for the chain wrestling to start lol. This match, as all C3 matches will be, has NO interference. Unlike Continental Classic bouts, however, these are no time limit.
Some more back and forth… Ace Austin hoists Claudio onto his shoulders. SQUATS and a Death Valley Driver. God, Ace Austin’s thighs could crack walnuts. Claudio rolls out. Ace dives outside… and gets CAUGHT. “He’s like a forklift!” – Wight. Ace slammed into the guardrail! Claudio is in firm control, popping into the ring to break the referee’s ten-count.
Castagnoli taunts Ace, then comes off the apron with an axhandle. Ace Austin gets rammed back first into the ring. Alley-Oop attempt, Ace escapes, nails Claudio! Up and over the turnbuckle and Ace Austin splashes Claudio! Castagnoli in pain on the floor as Ace pulls himself up!
*COMMERCIAL BREAK*
We return to Claudio in control with an armbar. Ace works to escape, but Claudio cuts him off and grabs a rear chinlock. Crowd chanting for Ace as he forces his way up. Classic elbows to the midsection. Suplex attempt countered and Claudio says “fuck you” with a running european uppercut.
Elbow drop from Claudio but Austin rolls out of the way. Charge is dodged! Claudio sent to the floor. Castagnoli quick to get back in but eats a QUAD CITY DROPKICK. Austin looking to make a comeback. Back suplex puts Claudio down, followed by a leaping legdrop. Charge into the corner, Claudio easily picks Ace Austin up and dumps his man on the top rope. Austin kicks Claudio away — Tijeras from the top sends Claudio down! DIVE ONTO CLAUDIO! Ace with a springboard legdrop, right across the back of Castagnoli’s neck! That gets a two count.
Ace charges in, Claudio hoists him up, Ace with a sunset flip for two! Ace springboards off RIGHT INTO A EUROPEAN UPPERCUT! One, two, Austin gets the shoulder up. Crowd wants to see the Giant Swing… Claudio delivers, WAIT, ACE COUNTERS! INTO A SUBMISSION HOLD! Oh dear God, those MASSIVE THIGHS wrapped around Claudio’s head! Claudio’s face is beet red. But somehow, he manages to up. They swap pinning attempts. Claudio picks Ace up and just… ugly slams Ace Austin to the canvas. The elbow bad comes off. Off the ropes — ACE NAILS A KICK! Off the ropes from Ace POP UP EUROPEAN UPPERCUT! And that’s that.
WINNER: Claudio Castagnoli
TIME: n/a
RATING: ***1/2
THOUGHTS: Great wrestling match contrasting a quicker high-flyer versus the powerful Claudio. Castagnoli always works well with smaller and speedier wrestlers. Good match, Ace Austin has looked great everytime he gets a singles match opportunity. I have to criticize having Ace go for a thigh-based submission only for Claudio to escape; with those thighs it should be the end. PERSONALLY, I would have loved to see Ace get the duke here. He hasn’t won anything important in AEW. Claudio isn’t winning this tournament or going to the finals, we all know that, so why not? Good match!
*Commercial Break*
* We get a vignette for the AEW debut of the MOTOR CITY MACHINE GUNS! What a fantastic reaction in Detroit.
Brawling Birds vs VertVixen and Viva Van
We get a four-woman slugfest to start before one of the opponents is tossed out. Hayter and Windsor laying it in. The other partner rushes in, gets immediately smacked down. Inverted atomic drop nails Vert Vixen , Hayter with a big boot to followup. Hayter beats the hell out of Vixen in the corner. Irish whip but VertVixen counters with some kicks! She tags out to her partner, Viva Van! Van off the top takes Jamie down for two. Vert and Van try a double clothesline but Hayter ducks and gets a two-for-one! HOT TAG WINDSAHHHH! Shoulderblocks rock VertVixen. Tag made to Hayter, DOUBLE HEADBUTT to Viva Van. HIGH-LOW from the Birds! TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE (aka the HART ATTACK). Cover gets three.
WINNERS: Brawling Birds
TIME: 3:08
RATING: **1/2
THOUGHTS: It was short, but it was energetic and hard-hitting.
The music of the World Tag Team Champions hits! But Divine Dominion COME FROM THE CROWD and attack the Birds from behind! Lena Kross and Megan Bayne send Hayter and Windsor to the floor and into the barricades. The champs grab Alex Windsor… I AM THE TABLE!! Windsor sent into the timekeeper’s table which absolute no-sells it. The champs mug for the cameras as their music hits!
* We get a video package highlighting the Darby Allin/Kevin Knight feud. Darby Allin wants Knight, TNT Championship on the line, at Wembley… FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE!!
* HOLY SHIT! “JANE” HITS!!! IT’S ORANGE CASSIDY!
* Briefly accompanied by Christopher Daniels (who then goes to the back), it’s Matt Sydal!
CONTINENTAL CHALLENGE CUP: Orange Cassidy v Matt Sydal
I’ve never been the biggest Sydal fan, but I’m happy for him to be back in action after such a lengthy injury layoff. Schiavone says it was twenty-six months!
CODE OF HONOR followed to start. Collar-and-elbow tie-up. We get some rasslin’ to begin. Pinfall exchanges lead to a stalemate. LOL Sydal gives Cassidy a half-assed thumbs up. Off the ropes, arm-drag! Cassidy and Sydal exchange counters. Sydal looks for a standing moonsault, Orange rolls him up for two. Now it’s Cassidy… going for a standing moonsault???
… whatever HOLY! He actually does it! Unfortunately, Sydal rolls out of the way. Sydal gets his for two!
Irish whip, reversed, reversed, REVERSED, REVERSSSSED — Orange finally eats a buckle! Sydal climbs to the top. Orange up and blocks. Schiavone notes that Orange Cassidy has wrestled two-hundred and sixteen matches in his AEW history. Sydal and Orange battle it out on the top. Orange allllmost goes over. Nah. He slugs Sydal a few times. Sydal sags, but he gets up. They both tumble off the top, onto the apron, to the floor!
*Commercial Break*
COLLISION CONTINUES LIVE! Orange delivering a series of blows to Sydal, both on the top turnbuckle. Sydal with an elbow knocks Cassidy off. Sydal with a tijeras! Series of kicks! Orange is reeling! Fake-out, big roundhouse! The one-time AIRBORNE heads to the top… METEORA! That gets a two-count. Nigel on commentary talking about his advantage in being able to scout all of his possible opponents while on commentary. Shibata v Nigel next week on Collision. Cannot wait.
Crowd is cheering for both guys. Cassidy sent to the corner, up and over! To the top, nails a flying cross body! Cassidy looks for the DDT, Sydal blocks, but Cassidy gets Stundog Millionaire! Cassidy looks for something. Sydal reverses. Cassidy reverses. Michinoku Driver! Wow, Cassidy is going quite outside his usual playbook tonight. This match fuckin’ rules.
Cassidy charges. EATS BOOTS. Big kick combo from Matt Sydal! Oh shit, he may have actually ANGERED Orange. Orange… POCKETS! Pockets dodge! Pockets dropkick! Sydal to the outside – Cassidy with a suicide dive! Sydal hits the commentary desk. Cassidy back in, off the ropes, Sydal catches him, Cassidy counters with the Tornado DDT! That gets two! Sydal is still alive! THE ELBOW PAD IS OFF! Orange loads up the PUNCH. Sydal counters it! PINNING COMBO! ONE! TWO! NO! HIGH KNEE! Sydal to the apron!
Cassidy is down. Sydal again to the top rope. SHOOTING STAR PRESS — CASSIDY DODGES! BEACH BREAK! ONE, TWO, THREE!
WINNER: Orange Cassidy
TIME: 11:27
RATING: ****
THOUGHTS: Maybe I’m feeling generous, but that match was GREAT. Stuff like the repeated irish whip counters, Cassidy breaking out different stuff like the Michinoku Driver, a good pace, Sydal showing he can still go, no bullshit. WRESTLING!
* Claudio and Jon Moxley are backstage. Moxley calls Claudio a MACHINE and says “altitude is a myth.” LOL. Moxley says he’s given up the Continental title belt for the tournament. Calls Jungle Jack Perry a hungry young predator. Moxley does not like that Perry has teamed up tonight with the BANG BANG GANG to wrestle the Deathriders. “It’s a bad night for your new friends.” Claudio gets the final word, saying “AGAINST THE WORLD.”
* Back to the arena, and here come the Rascalz! It’s a tag team contest with Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz. Myron Reed accompanies them down the aisle! Their opponents are already in the ring.
The Rascalz v ??? & Aaron Solo
Solo getting chants from the Colorado crowd! He starts with Wentz. Tag to Dez, high kick/German suplex combo! I can’t make out the partner’s name. Steven something. STEVE eats more combo offense from the Rascalz. Monkey flip into a superkick! METEORA! That could do it, but the Rascalz aren’t done. HOT FIRE FLAME!
WINNERS: THe Rascalz
TIME: 1:29
RATING: n/a
THOUGHTS: Too short to rate, great showcase for the Rascalz.
* The Rascalz get a mic! Dez talks about winning MILE HIGH MADNESS last time. No one knows about being a MILE HIGH better than the Rascalz. SMOKE EM IF YOU GOT EM. The Rascalz have shown they’re one of the best trios, best tag times. Reed takes the mic, and singles action. He’s in action later against Speedball! LOL Wentz and Dez mock Speedball’s karate kicks. “CAN WE DO THIS RIGHT NOW? LET’S GET THIS SMOKE!”
* SPEEDBALL! Bailey v Reed? Oh, this could be good.
SPEEDBALL MIKE BAILEY v MYRON REED
This could be rad. Mat wrestling to start, various counters, leg sweeps! Reed blocks it, off the ropes. International spot, baby! DEEP ARMDRAG! REED GETS ONE! They both try and can’t! Kicks — EACH catch the leg of the other! They slowly let each other go and shake hands. Is it me, or has Reed gotten more jacked?
Sweep leapt over, Bailey misses a kick, but gets the rapid ride karate kicks! He hits the ropes. Reed dodges. Shoulder thrust. Leaping sunset flip, Bailey rolls out, Reed gets a dropkick! SPRINGBOARD DROPKICK! Dang! “Adjusted Speedball’s molars.” – Wight. Speedball dodges a Reed charge, DIVE TO THE FLOOR! Both men are down on the outside!
*Commercial Break*
We’ve got a fight on the ring apron as Reed and Speedball trade forearms! Bailey is the first to stumble, but Reed can’t capitalize. Bailey switches to kicks! THUD, right into Reed’s chest. Reed gets a kick of his own. Off the buckle. Bailey dodges by going back in the ring. Legsweep takes Reed down. Backflip knees… HITS RING APRON. Reed off the ropes! CUTTER — BAILEY LANDS ON HIS FEET! Whaaaaaaat! Bailey hits the ropes SPINNING TORNILLO! Wowwww. Speedball is holding his knee, that sequence was wild.
Bailey goes to the top rope. Reed meets him, but gets shoved off. Bailey leaps off. Reed dodges. Bailey lands on his feet but his left knee gives out. Reed takes advantage. Up top, Bailey cuts him off. Bailey with a top rope Frankensteiner! LOL you could try to sell. Bailey wants the spinning kick. He loads up. Reed ducks! KIP UP! CUTTER! Charge — Bailey with the boots! Tries the knees again, Reed blocks! Bailey bails to the floor. Reed literally flies OVER the TURNBUCKLE to land on Bailey on the floor! He rolls Speedball in, up top. 450 splash! Bailey dodges! Bailey with a modified Spanish Fly for three!
WINNER: Speedball Mike Bailey
TIME: 9:48
RATING: ****
THOUGHTS: Fuck it, we ballin’. Excellent match. Bailey had a classic with Fletcher just on Wednesday, and now tonight a great sprint with Myron Reed. Reed again shows out. Here’s me hoping that tonight is a precursor to good things for the Rascalz.
* We cut backstage to the Dogs. Connors talks about the Dogs victories over the Bang Bang Gang. He plugs David Finlay v Jay White. That match happens Wednesday and is part of the Continental Challenge Cup! Finlay pretends that anyone finds him threatening and namedrops some C3 competitors. They keep talking and I just do not care.
* Back to action, and it’s time for former TBS champ HIKARU SHIDA! Out next is the CMLL Women’s Champion, PERSEPHONE! They await their opponetns. HYAN and TBS Champ MAYA WORLD come out to square off!
MAYA WORLD & HYAN v HIKARU SHIDA & PERSEPHONE
Persephone and Hyan start things off. Typical back and forth to start. Hyan takes control and tags in Maya. Maya off the ropes and eats a knee to the back from Shida! Ref didn’t see it. Maya trying to fight back against both of their opponents! She takes down both opponents! Spinning heel kick gets two. Tag to Hyan. Sunset flip, Persephone rolls out, nails a dropkick. Shida with a drive-by to Hyan! Maya tries to help. She goes for a dive only to suffer a double forearm shot from Shida & Persephone.
*Commercial Break*
Persephone is in control of Hyan. Maya wants the tag. Hyan fights up. Elbows get her free, but Persephone cuts that off. Persephone looks for a slam. Hyan counters into an arm drag! She crawls to her corner, HOT TAG WORLD! Shida is also in! Spin kick! Two-for-one on Hikaru Shida! Maya gets advantage over Shida and tags Hyan back in. They nail a double-team. Hyan hits a Tijeras on MAYA to send Maya into a cornered Shida! That gets two. The good girls set up a double-team move, but Persephone grabs Maya by the ankle when she hits the ropes. Missile dropkick from Persephone! Shida DOES THE DEAL! ONE, TWO, MAYA BREAKS THE PINFALL!
Shida waits for Hyan to get up, signalling for the Katana. Hyan catches the leg! Fires away! Hyan with a chicken-wing lift, Maya leaps up with a Complete shot! Wow! Persephone’s turn to break up the pinfall! Big boot to Maya. Looks for the Razor’s Edge! Countered! FALLAWAY SLAM! MAYA WITH A DIVE TO PERSEPHONE! In the ring, it’s Hyan and Shida! SPEAR FROM HYAN! ONE! TWO! TH–NO! Holy shit, that was close! Hyan with the double chicken-wing, Shida counters out! Stiff forearm! Shida with JESUS some kind of Tombstone! That gets three.
WINNERS: Hikaru Shida & Persephone
TIME: 9:49
RATING: ***3/4
THOUGHTS: Collision keeps rocking! A lot of good tag team action. The commercial break cut more out of this than I would like, but a lot of great double-team action. HYAN looked excellent. Obviously Maya is getting the big push, but Hyan is damn talented herself. Presumably Shida getting the win is to help set her up for a TBS title rematch.
* The TNT champion, KEVIN KNIGHT, is with Lexy Nair! Please stop talking in the third person, Knight. Knight isn’t interested in giving Darby a title shot much less Falls Count Anywhere. Instead, Knight challenges CHRIS JERICHO for a TNT title match this Wednesday on Dynamite!
*Commercial Break*
* Vignette for Takeshita’s run in the G1! Takeshita is on top of the A Block with ten points. Could Takeshita repeat as G1 winner?
* The BEST entrance in wrestling… BY ORDER OF THE BANG BANG GANG! Glad to hear that Jay White won’t be out longer than Wednesday. Here are Austen, Colten, and Juice! Juice’s outfit is wild. God I love this crazy fucker. But wait, they need a fourth tonight… Jungle love! Here comes JACK PERRY! Ha, the Bang Bang Gang do the hand wave to his song. Perry slaps hands around ringside! Perry v Moxley in the C3 on Wednesday.
* Goddammit, Juice lol
* ATONAL SCREECHING. Hiding in the back of the arena are the DEATHRIDERS. Claudio hangs back, but Marina Shafir comes to the ring with the rest of the group. Garcia does some pushups outside the ring. Yeah, dude, maybe do a LOT more of those…
Jungle Jack Perry, Juice Robinson, The Gunns vs Jon Moxley, Daniel Garcia, PAC, Wheeler Yuta
This one could be challenging to recap! Moxley and Austen Gunn start us off. Dueling “MOXLEY/GUNS UP” chants. Moxley starts this one off with… WRESTLING! Single-leg takedown to a pin but Austen spins out of it. Perry wants in, Austen obliges. Tag made. Moxley waits for Jungle Jack. Perry wants to tieup… and Moxley tags out. Wheeler gets a rollup for two. They run the ropes, monkey flip to Wheeler! Dropkick from Perry! KIP UP! Arm drag and twist, the tall-ass Colten Gunn tags in. Hooks Wheeler. Austen tags in, double-team! Still controlling young Wheeler, JUICE is in! Diving headbutt! Juice looks for his left hand strikes but Yuta counters with biting. Garcia runs in, slammed! PAC is in, gets hip tossed! JUICE WITH BIG RIGHT HAND JABS! The numbers get to him. Double whip, Juice with a crossbody to both men! Juice sends PAC and Garcia out! He doesn’t see Moxley sneak in with a THUMB TO THE EYE. Referee Rick Knox trying and (as usual) failing to get control of this as Perry sends Moxley to the outside. The Deathriders take a powder on the outside as the BBG and Perry have the ring!
*Commercial Break*
We’re back. During the break, the Deathriders took over because Wheeler Yuta is assaulting Juice Robinson. “FUCK YOU, YUTA” chants. Garcia tags in and rains down blows. Then, of course, Garcia has to shout at the crowd and cosplay as a tough guy. Garcia with a front facelock on Juice. Nigel makes a GREAT point on commentary, that the young “dark horses” need to become thoroughbreds, and just being the lackeys isn’t really elevating them. THANK YOU.
Juice tries to make a tag, but it doesn’t happen. We get the classic spot where the babyface inadvertantly distracts the ref leading to a four on one. Garcia keeps talking and making stupid noises. Juice avoids the assault and hits a knee! Juice crawling for the tag! HOT TAG JUNGLE! IT’S PERRY AND MOX! Perry ducks a lariat and lays in chops! Irish whip, Moxley counters, lariat ducked, ducked again, flying forearm from Jungle Jack! He charges in but eats Moxley’s boot. Moxley wants a piledriver. Perry wriggles out. Standing switch, DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE! BOTH MEN DOWN! Moxley tags Yuta in, Perry gets Austen Gunn. “Here comes the energizer bunny!” – Nigel.
Austen is a HOUSE ON FIRE! He takes out Wheeler, then Garcia, CROTCH CHOP! Tag to Colten and they take out PAC! Moxley in, Colten with a HUGE leaping lariat. Colten fakes PAC out and drops him down. FAMOUSER TO WHEELER! Broken up by the Deathriders! Colten sent to the corner and run their train on Colten Gunn. Geez, they’re laying it in. Juice slides in and hits right jabs to EVERY DEATHRIDER! LEFT HAND OF GOD TO DANIEL GARCIA (I think, it was his southpaw). Austen Gunn nails PAC! Wheeler gets a Samoan drop on Austen! Pumphandle by Colten! Moxley with a cutter! Perry with a kick! PERRY WITH A MOONSAULT TO THREE DEATHRIDERS ON THE FLOOR!
In the ring, we have Wheeler Yuta in one corner and Colten Gunn in the other! Wheeler begging Colten to get up. Busaiku knee countered with a dropkick! The Gunns look for 3:10 to YUMA but Shafir hits the apron to distract Rick Knox. THE DOGS RUN OUT! Low blows to both Gunns! Wheeler and Garcia team up to nail Austen, and that gets a three-count as David Finlay and Clark Connors retreat.
WINNERS: Deathriders
TIME: 13:04
RATING: ***1/2
THOUGHTS: Pretty good eight-man tag. TK, book the Gunns more, they are a GREAT tag team and it was wonderful to see them actually get to do that here. Juice is always a madman. I appreciated Perry’s intensity knowing he’s going up against Moxley on Wednesday one versus one. Deathriders did their normal shtick. Moxley is great, Wheeler gets heat, PAC is a bastard, and Garcia is a geek. Finish was whatever. I get it, but meh. I cannot give less of a shit about the Dogs.
Jack Perry doesn’t give a fuck! RUNNING KNEE TO WHEELER YUTA! The Deathriders decide it’s not worth it tonight and beat the retreat as Perry stares down Moxley.
* Speedball is backstage. Grand Slam Mexico was a dream come true, but sadly, he is not International champion. Bailey issues a challenge… TO MJF for Dynamite! Nick Wayne slides into the scene. Damn, I know Speedball is short, but Wayne has like, four inches on him. “The Prodigy” Nick Wayne talks about his match for the ROH World title at Death Before Dishonor (which he earned by losing almost every match in ROH/AEW this year). Wayne says he will also be in the match on Wednesday, with the winner getting the coveted #2 spot in the ALL IN Casino Gauntlet.
* Schiavone narrates a package remembering the late, great Dory Funk, Jr. Some really great old photographs in here. Young beardless Terry! Classy tribute from AEW, as always.
*Commercial Break*
* Backstage… THE HURT SYNDICATE are off the island! SHANE TAYLOR PROMOTIONS are here! Shane wants to acquire the services of the Hurt Syndicate. Carli Bravo is hilarious. MVP says STP have their undivided attention and they will be in touch.
* Backstage, the Bang Bang Gang and Perry are pissed off. Perry says he was told to stay from gangs, but “you guys” (the Bang Bang Gang) are alright. LOL. Perry cuts a fierce promo about the match coming up on Wednesday, where there will be NO interference!! DO IT TK. KNOCK MOXLEY OUT IN THE FIRST ROUND. DO IT. DO IT YOU COWARD.
* Perry exits and Juice starts screaming at the camera, furious about the Dogs costing them the match. Juice is getting muted repeatedly LOL. He hypes up Jay White v David Finlay on Wednesday. Austen: AND IF YOU’RE NOT DOWN WITH THAT…
* It’s main event time! Here comes Jake… something. Oh, right. Jake DOYLE. He’s accompanied (briefly) by Miami Trent Beretta.
* “THE WORLD! IS COLD! YOU BETTER BUNDLE UP!” THIS MAN
EDDIE KINGSTON
SO GOOD to see the “MAD KING” back on AEW TV! I know it’s been a rough recovery for Kingston but damn, IDGAF. I love this fuckin’ man. Eddie as typical walks directly to the ring, no nonsense. Sign of the cross before he hits the ring. Inset promo for Kingston. “Doyle… You DON’T rule.” LOL!
CONTINENTAL CHALLENGE CUP: Eddie Kingston v Jake Doyle
Big “Eddie” chants to start off. “FUCK HIM UP, EDDIE, FUCK HIM UP.” Lock-up and Doyle, of course, has the power advantage. But Eddie with a side headlock takeover. Doyle up, shoulderblock. Eddie hits the ropes, Doyle again takes him down. INSULT – Doyle “wipes his feet.” Eddie says NAH and starts hitting some big chops. Eddie charges and it’s the DOYLE DICK ATTACK!
Doyle is in the corner, yelling for Eddie to get up. CHARGE. Eddie moves out of the way. Corner chops from the Mad King! Eddie screams “KOBASHI” but Doyle ducks and nails the King! Eddie shot to the corner, Doyle follows with a big crush! Now Doyle chokes Eddie on the ropes because he’s something of a dick. Doyle sends Eddie to the outside as “FUCK DON CALLIS/FUCK ICE TOO” chants take up.
Outside, Eddie is on the barricade. Doyle clotheslines him! But Eddie is fighting back! Headbutts! Eddie looks a bit dazed himself, but rolls in. CHOP. Doyle says FUCK YOU and manhandles Eddie with a bodyslam! Doyle jaws with the crowd as they once again chant “Eddie.” Eddie looks like he got something in his eye.
Into the corner, Doyle with repeated shoulder thrusts. SHORT-ARM CLOTHESLINE. The Snake would be proud. Cover gets two. Eddie tries to fire up, hits a variety of strikes! BIG CHOP! Doyle is staggered! “KOBASHI!” MACHINE GUN CHOPS! Eddie pauses, screams, NAILS a huge one to finish it off! Looks for the EXPLODER but the big Jake Doyle blocks. A walking bodyslam gets two. We’re into the overrun, and… taking a commercial break!
*Commercial Break*
Eddie with a flying shoulder from Bret’s rope to take Doyle down! THE STRAPS COME DOWN! EXPLODER CONNECTS! Cover gets two. God, Doyle is BIG. I somehow never saw it when I saw him in TNA. “FUCK HIM UP, EDDIE” chants once again. Wight notes that Eddie’s equilibrium seems a bit messed up. The Mad King pulls Doyle up, but the big man ROCKS him with a huge forearm. Eddie on his knees, Doyle from behind with a Sliding D! Eddie is fucked, man. Doyle with a powerbomb — Eddie slides out! BACK SUPLEX (called an “exploder” by Schiavone). Eddie points to the sky as the fans rally behind him! Both men showing the effects of this stiff out. BACKFIST! DOYLE DUCKS! POWERBOMB! ONE! TWO! EDDIE GETS THE SHOULDER UP!!!
Eddie is glassy-eyed! “EDDIE, EDDIE!” Doyle mocks Eddie to a chorus of boos. Doyle GOOZLES Eddie up. Another thunderous forearm. Eddie is on spaghetti legs and eats another one. But Eddie won’t go down. Forearm — BACKFIST CONNECTS! EDDIE WITH ANOTHER! EDDIE KINGSTON HOOKS JAKE DOYLE! HE GETS A MODIFIED DRAGON SLEEPER! DOYLE TAPS OUT!!!
WINNER: Eddie Kingston/b>
TIME: 12:03
RATING: ****
THOUGHTS: Whatever, I’m biased, IDGAF. That was the best Eddie Kingston has looked in a while. I miss him on AEW TV but working in Ring of Honor appears to be paying dividends for Eddie finding himself after the recovery from his awful injuries. Jake Doyle just CONTINUES to impress me. I didn’t see a LOT of him in TNA, but damn. He’s big, he can move, he’s got intensity, what a fuckin’ hoss. Earlier in the show Speedball and Reed put on a great high-flying bout; in the main event, these two worked a gritty hard-hitting affair.
* Eddie celebrates and that’s our show!
