Kenny Omega Reveals Inspiration For Ring Gear At AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door

Kenny Omega says that his ring gear at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door was inspired by his match with Bryan Danielson at AEW Grand Slam in 2021. Omega faced Zack Sabre Jr. at Sunday’s PPV. He had new ring gear for the match, which he spoke about on the latest Being the Elite.

Omega noted that the gear was inspired by what he wore when he faced Danielson at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in 2021. That match was a 30 minute time limit draw and one of AEW’s most acclaimed bouts.

“I don’t know if you guys remember my costume for when I wrestled Bryan Danielson at Arthur Ashe,” Omega said (per Fightful). “I thought that gear was tremendous, I enjoyed it.”

He went on to note, “It’s got a special place in my heart and I thought, I wanted something to look like that because I view Zack in sort of a similar light as Danielson. Very technical savvy, incredible in-ring worker. I just said, of all the colors that we’ve tried with each other, let’s try a new one. It ended up being that nice beautiful purple.”

Omega defeated Sabre at Forbidden Door in a match that went over 26 minutes.
