John Cena is set to wrestle his final match at tonight’s Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C. Ahead of what is expected to be an extremely emotional night, tributes are pouring in for the 17-time World Champion.
Earlier today, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle took to social media to reflect on John Cena’s legendary career and welcomed him to life after retirement. Cena famously made his WWE debut on an episode of SmackDown in June 2002, when he came out to answer Angle’s open challenge, prompting the Olympic gold medalist to ask who he was. When Cena introduced himself, Kurt asked him what quality he possessed that made him think he could wrestle the Olympian. In response, Cena said, “Ruthless Aggression,” and then proceeded to slap Angle across the face.
Angle recounted that particular conversation in his tribute and then went on to heap praise on John Cena for leaving an “indelible mark on the world of sports entertainment.”
Here’s what Kurt Angle wrote:
“‘Who in the hell are you?’
‘I’m John Cena.’From his unforgettable moments in the ring to his inspiring presence outside of it, John Cena has truly left an indelible mark on the world of sports entertainment. I am proud to have been part of his journey, and what a ride it has been for him. His dedication, resilience, and passion have inspired countless fans and peers alike. As he embarks on his well-deserved retirement, I wish him all the best in the next chapter of his life. Enjoy your last ride, John…a legend forever. Welcome to retirement, my friend.”
