Kurt Angle loved working with Rey Mysterio, though he does recall how he got angry with Mysterio’s entrance at WrestleMania 22. Angle defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Mysterio and Randy Orton at the 2006 PPV. Mysterio ended up winning the title, and Angle noted in an interview with Dos and D how he got pissed in the ring because Mysterio took extra long with his entrance.
The WWE Hall of Famer noted that he ended up understanding why, because it was Mysterio’s “moment” as he was winning the title. He added that he was happy to lose to Mysterio and praised him as a performer and person. You can see highlights below:
On Mysterio:
“Rey is the coolest kid in the world. He is so humble, and he is so talented. I mean the the kid’s skills — he’s 150 pounds and he’s been a world champion at WWE. It’s just unfathomable. But he’s a special kid there. There he only comes around once every freaking five generations. I’ve never seen a kid that small dominate the world of pro wrestling. And he does an amazing job. You know, the cool thing is he’s such a good kid. You want to help him. It’s like, ‘Rey, I’ll lose to you. I love you, man.'”
On Mysterio’s Entrance At WrestleMania 22:
“I remember at one point in time we had a main event match at WrestleMania. It was Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, and myself. And Rey pissed me off that night. We had 20 minutes for our match. That’s including entrances. So I rush out in 30 seconds, I get mine over with. Randy comes out in 30 seconds, gets it over with. Rey starts comes out with this outfit on, looked like a bird. And he’s dancing around and then he goes up the scaffold and comes back down. And [he] goes down the ramp and goes around the ring three times.
“And I’m like, ‘This motherf**ker!’ We ended up only having 12 minutes for a match, because he took up eight minutes for his entrance. I was like, ‘Man!’ And you know
what I understood after, because it was his moment. He was going to win the world title that night. So I wish I wouldn’t have got pissed off at him, but I did.”
On Dropping the Title To Mysterio:
“But no, Rey — I was honored and privileged to be able to drop the title to him that night. But not only was he representing himself, but he was representing Eddie Guerrero. And I thought that was a great storyline to end that story that way, for sure.”
