Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of UFC Fight Night: Fiziev vs. Torres, I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be your host. We’re still in the trough between two big UFC events, two weeks ago was the White House card and next week is the 4th of July followed the week after by UFC 329 and international fight week. As for this card we’re back in Azerbaijan with a lot of the usual suspects for this kind of event. That said the main event is a bit of a crossroads one as Rafael Fiziev takes on exciting talent Manuel Torres. It’s not for a title fight or anything but Fiziev hasn’t quite looked the same since his knee injury in the Gamrot fight and if he’s never going to fully recover then Torres starting a real push at his expense is possible. Elsewhere on the card there’s a good flyweight fight with Asu Almabayev taking on Charles Johnson, Ikram Aleiskerov vs. Brunno Ferreira should be fun, Daniil Donchenko is a rising guy in the all violence category, and Bekzat Almakhan vs. Jean Matsumoto has potential. Despite this not being the top tier of road event the UFC can put on this one has very little actual dross on paper, now let’s hope the action delivers.
UFC Fight Night: Fiziev vs. Torres comes to the world from the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan. We’ve got John Gooden, Michael Bisping, and Paul Felder on commentary while Bruce Buffer does the announcing and McKenzie Pavacich serves as our roving reporter. We should be in the regular cage and using the most recent rules but I’ll be sure to update if those assumptions are in error.
Tahir Abdullayev brings a four fight winning streak into his UFC debut, now he gets to make his promotional debut in his home country. Jefferson Nascimento is undefeated coming into his UFC debut, he’s looking to make a good first impression and cool off the crowd as quickly as possible. The odds are close but lean towards Nascimento at -140 to +120 for Abdullayev.
Welterweight Bout: Tahir Abdullayev (21-3, 170.5 lbs.) vs. Jefferson Nascimento (13-0, 171 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: These two are the same height while Abdullayev has two and a half inches of reach advantage. Nascimento circles a bit to start. A bit of feinting from both men but nothing serious happens for the first full minute. Calf kick from Nascimento. Abdullayev with a calf kick. Bit of a one two from Nascimento. Abdullayev is showing a few southpaw looks but only briefly. Body jab from Nascimento. Abdullayev keeps trying to pressure forward but he’s struggling to actually cut Nascimento off, he’s a bit slower on his feet more than just being lost with cage movement. Bit of a right from Nascimento. Nascimento just keeps circling and only occasionally throwing. They get close and Abdullayev fires a few uppercuts from a brief clinch. Left hook from Abdullayev, then a bit of a left high kick. Knee from Abdullayev, then he grabs the fence and no one comments while he avoids a takedown. They clinch up and then there’s something that gets the ref to step in. Abdullayev took a knee a bit low but then we just get a reset with about 8 seconds left and nothing happens before the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Abdullayev
ROUND TWO: Nascimento lands a calf kick and gets back to circling. Abdullayev keeps coming forward, and both men avoid hooks. Abdullayev moves forward and walks into a right hand. A lot more stance switching from Abdullayev this round, he fires a left high kick that’s partially blocked. Body kick from Nascimento. Abdullayev lands a right hand. Bit of a calf kick from Abdullayev, he’s the one backing up now and he’s trying to draw Nascimento into actually engaging. Bit of a right from Nascimento. Right to the body from Nascimento. Both men with lefts in close. Calf kick from Nascimento. Abdullayev pushes forward and walks into a left hand. The ref pauses things to warn Nascimento about timidity, that’s fine but he should probably warn Abdullayev as well given the round. Abdullayev walks into a front kick then whines about Nascimento moving around. Nascimento avoids a takedown. Abdullayev misses a few hooks. Bit of a right from Nascimento. Both men get close and trade, a right from Abdullayev might have been a bit late before the ref gets in there to break them up.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Nascimento, 19-19 overall
ROUND THREE: That last right from Abdullayev was definitely late on the horn but not necessarily after the ref got int there. Both men come out more aggressively this round. We get an exchange, Nascimento gets off balanced and Abdullayev gets on top in half guard. You can see a frame difference when they tie up, Abdullayev is thicker and commentary mentioned Nascimento is more of a lightweight. Body to head punches from Nascimento. They tie up and Nascimento hits the body then Abdullayev with knees and an elbow as the round ends. Bit of a knee from Abdullayev. Nascimento misses a right hand and Abdullayev hits a double leg into full guard. Abdullayev postures up and lands elbows while passing to half guard. Nascimento looks to scramble but Abdullayev shoves him back down. A few strikes from Abdullayev land, then he avoids a double wrist lock. A few hammer fists from Abdullayev on top as Nascimento gets full guard. Abdullayev lands a few more strikes. Nascimento with strikes off of his back. Abdullayev lands a couple of punches, he’s able to land enough rights to get the ref to step in, I’m not sure I like that stoppage.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Tahir Abdullayev via TKO, punches, at 4:28 of Round 3
The Final Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Abdullayev for his work. Mic time for Abdullayev and the translator, he plays with the crowd then feels good about the fight.
I do not love this stoppage, but you can judge for yourselves.
The referee calls this one over? 🤔
Tahir Abdullayev walks out of #UFCBaku with the R3 TKO!

Bekzat Almakhan has gone just 1-2 in the UFC but his losses are to Umar Nurmagomedov and Aleksandre Topuria and between those he stopped Brad Katona in short order. Almakhan is coming off of the loss to Topuria and is trying to avoid his first losing streak. Jean Matsumoto has gone 3-2 in the UFC though both of his losses were somewhat controversial split decisions, he’s coming off of the more contentions of those when he lost to Farid Basharat. Matsumoto is also trying to avoid his first losing streak. Matsumoto is the -175 favorite while +140 on Almakhan might tempt a few bettors out there.

Uppercut from Almakhan, then Matsumoto lands a right hand. Jab from Matsumoto then a left body kick. Another body kick from Matsumoto. Almakhan complains of a low kick and we get a time out. OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Jean Matsumoto via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)
I’m a little surprised by that one. No interview for Matsumoto.
Daniil Donchecnko is on an eight fight winning streak including two wins in the UFC which includes winning some season of TUF, he’s trying to keep that streak going here and start making the move from prospect towards contender. Theodor Berggren took this fight on short notice but he has won his last two fights and now tries to spring a significant upset in his UFC debut. Given the late replacement it’s not surprising to see Donchenko as a heavy -500 favorite to a +375 comeback on Berggren.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Daniil Donchenko via TKO, head kick and punches, at 1:35 of Round 2
Mic time for Donchenko and the translator, he jokes that he only just realized he could do high kicks then plays with the crowd and sends love to his home before saying he’d like to fight in Paris. Asked more about the future he just wants someone who will fight with him to put on the best fight.
You really do need both hands high to absorb a head kick, just one wont do it. Doubly true if the kick is able to catch the wrist as there’s almost no supporting structure there.
HEADKICK STRAIGHT INTO RIGHT HANDS!! 🤩
Daniil Donchenko gets the R2 TKO today in Baku!

Kaan Ofli has gone 2-2 in the UFC but he is on a two fight winning streak and he’s looking to keep that momentum going with another win here. Javier Reyes is on a three fight winning streak including a win in his UFC debut back in February, now he’s back in action and looking to prove himself a prospect of note. The odds like Reyes at -225 to Ofli’s +165.
Featherweight Bout: Kaan Ofli (13-4-1, 146 lbs.) vs. Javier Reyes (23-5, 145.5 lbs.)

Nursulton Ruziboev hasn’t lost at middleweight since 2016, he’s gone 4-1 in the UFC with that loss coming at welterweight. He’s been out of action for over a year, but he’s also on a two fight winning streak and if he can get to three in a row here it should set him up to take on a bigger name next time. Andrey Pulyaev has gone just 1-2 in the UFC and most recently lost a decision to Ateba Gautier, now he’s trying to avoid his first losing streak. Ruziboev is the favorite at -225 while Pulyaev’s comeback sits at +185.

When asked about the future he says he used to just fight all the time but is undefeated at middleweight in the UFC and is ready for anyone in the division. He almost runs down Bisping to grab the mic and close with thanks to God, his home, his team, and again says he wants ranked opposition.

Abdul Rakhman Yakhyaev is undefeated including two wins in the UFC, thus far he’s only been out of the first round once and another similar performance here would help solidify him as a prospect for a division badly in need of them. Julius Walker has gone just 1-2 in the UFC and is coming off of a loss, he’s trying to avoid his first losing streak. The odds really like Yakhyaev at -650 to a +450 comeback on Walker.
Light Heavyweight Bout: Julius Walker (7-2, 206 lbs.) vs. Abdul Rakhman Yakhyaev (9-0, 206 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Walker is two inches taller but the reach is identical. Immediate counter right from Yakhyaev floors Walker and a few more follow ups on the mat get the stoppage.

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Yakhyaev for his work, that’s the second fastest knockout in UFC light heavyweight history. Mic time for Yakhyaev and the duo of translators, he says he’ll have to do better next time and get the record for fastest finish. He was just ready for the opening that he got from Walker. Asked about the future he says if the UFC gives him ranked guys he’s ready.
I get wanting to establish your jab but you’ve got to be super careful doing so early against a guy as aggressive early as Yakhyaev.
ABDUL RAKHMAN YAKHYAEV DOESN'T EVEN NEED TEN SECONDS TO GET THE KO WIN!!! 😳

Interview for Aliskerov, he says the fight was tough and he puts over Ferreira’s toughness forcing him to a more grappling heavy fight once he had to deal with dangerous counters. Asked about the future he can fight with anyone. Well that’s unhelpful.
Asu Almabayev has gone 6-1 in the UFC with that lone loss coming to Manel Kape, he’s currently riding a two fight winning streak including his first finish since 2023. Charles Johnson has some solid wins in the UFC including besting Joshua Van and Lone’er Kavanagh, both by knockout. Michel Pereira has had a somewhat lengthy and odd UFC run, he’s coming off of a win that broke a three fight losing streak now and really needs a win to help stave off talk of him hitting the downside of his career. Shara Magomedov lost to Michael Page last year but rebounded with a win and now he’s trying to build another winning streak, but it really feels like the hype he had after his UFC debut has all but evaporated. The odds quite like Magomedov at -350 to +260 on Pereira.
Middleweight Bout: Shara Magomedov (16-1, 186 lbs.) vs. Michel Pereira (32-14 2 NC, 185.5 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Magomedov is an inch taller while the reach is identical. A bit of feinting and circling from both men, Pereira shows a few stance switches but he’s mostly orthodox. Bit of a jab from Pereira. Calf kick from Magomedov. Another calf kick from Magomedov. Hard right from Pereira drops Magomedov, Pereira gets on top and starts unloading with punches to the body and head. Magomedov tries some up kicks as Pereira stands over him, then Pereira passes the guard towards side control. Some hair grabbing from Magomedov, over and over and the ref gives him a stern warning because the rules don’t actually exist. Pereira gets into the full guard of Magomedov and does some body to head punches. Short elbow from Pereira. More body to head punches from Pereira then a couple of elbows as well. Pereira stands over Magomedov then passes to knee on belly and lands hammer fists. Magomedov gives up the back, one hook for Pereira but he loses it and Magomedov gets on top in full guard. Pereira kicks Magomedov off then Magomedov stands over him as the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Pereira, I think Magomedov avoided the 10-8 at the end
ROUND TWO: The ref reiterates a hard warning to follow the rules to Magomedov before the round starts. Pereira avoids a calf kick. Both of them show some stance switches as they circle around. Bit of a right hand from Pereira. Magomedov lands a calf kick then shows a side kick. Pereira blocks a high kick. Magomedov with a side kick to the knee. Bit of a flurry from Pereira then Magomedov fires a kick to the body and one to the calf. Side kick again from Magomedov. Another side kick from Magomedov. Pereira avoids a high kick but he really needs to get his offense going again. Both men miss punches. Bit of a right from Pereira. Magomedov lands another side kick then a knee in close. Lots of moving. Magomedov misses a tornado kick then they trade punches. Pereira misses a rolling thunder kick as the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Magomedov, 19-19 overall
ROUND THREE: Pereira moves forward a little more this round. They clash on kicks. Body jab from Pereira. Magomedov shows another side kick. Another side kick from Magomedov then Pereira lands a calf kick. Calf kick from Magomedov. Bit of a left hand from Pereira. Pereira tries a double leg, Magomedov defends then pokes Pereira in the eye as they break so we’ve got a time out. Let’s see if the ref does anything about this in terms of penalizing Magomedov. Pereira takes 1:22 then we’re back, and of course no point deduction. The rules really don’t exist. Pereira lands a calf kick. Bit of a right from Pereira. Both men land in close. Pereira with a front kick then a calf kick. Both men land lefts. One two from Magomedov. Magomedov with a bit of a head kick. Pereira tries a takedown, Magomedov defends but they hit the fence. Elbow from Magomedov. Pereira lands an uppercut. Some body shots from Pereira then Magomedov lands a knee as they break. Side kick from Magomedov, then both men get close and swing for a few seconds before the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Magomedov, 29-28 Magomedov overall
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Shara Magomedov via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)
Some mild drama in the first round aside that was pretty lackluster overall. Mic time for Magomedov, he thanks God and got what he expected from this fight and puts over Pereira. He thanks the fans and feels this is just a step and he’ll keep moving to bigger and better things. I find that a dubious proposition. To close he again thanks everyone for support and feels he’ll get the belt eventually. Again I find that unlikely.
Rafael Fiziev has gone just 1-4 in his last five fights, granted two of those losses are to Justin Gaethje and one was due to a freak knee injury. Most recently though Fiziev got beaten by Maruicio Ruffy and now if he wants to ever make a real push in the division he has to avoid another losing streak. Manuel Torres has gone 5-1 in the UFC and is on a two fight winning streak, now he’s looking for his best win and to push up the rankings in a big way. This one has been close pretty much since it was announced and closed as a -110 pick ’em.
Lightweight Bout: #11 Rafael Fiziev (13-5, 156 lbs.) vs. #15 Manuel Torres (17-3, 156 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Torres has two inches of height and reach advantage. They touch gloves to start. Fiziev comes out kicking then lands a right hand. Calf kick from Fiziev. Torres lands a left body kick. Another calf kick from Fiziev. Torres tries to blitz but can’t quite find the target. Double leg from Fiziev against the fence. Torres wall walks fairly quickly then knees Fiziev in the groin so we’ve got a time out. Fiziev only takes 13 seconds though then we’re back to fighting. Both men land calf kicks. Torres is trying to counter a calf kick with a right hand but Fiziev is keeping his guard high. Fiziev lands another calf kick. Torres misses a head kick. Fiziev goes southpaw to land some inside calf kicks. Jab from Torres. Torres misses a left hook. Inside calf kick from Fiziev. Bit of a knee from Torres but his punches miss. Calf kick from Torres. Fiziev lands another calf kick. They’re both showing stance switches now. Jab from Torres. Fiziev catches a kick and gets a takedown, he’s on top in a leg entanglement. Torres is able to disengage and both men reset on the feet. Bit of a right from Fiziev, then a right to the body and a left hook. Torres lands a body kick then a left hand. Stiff jab from Torres as the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Fiziev but could go either way
ROUND TWO: Fiziev cracks Torres with a wheel kick early, Torres is hurt and Fiziev unloads along the fence until Torres drops and the ref steps in.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Rafael Fiziev via KO, wheel kick and punches, at :15 of Round 2
Mic time for Fiziev, he’s pretty emotional and plays with the crowd and thanks God then expresses how happy he is. He feels that should get him a bonus so he might be able to buy a motorcycle. Asking for it hurts but if you do something that cool it kind of balances out. He is just really happy this fight went well. He says the jab from Torres in the first messed up his left eye so he came into the second looking for something a little wild. Asked about the future he wants a BMF title shot. I appreciate him not asking for a title shot, especially with two losses to the current champion, but that one feels a little out of reach too as Charles Oliveira likely is still looking at the title himself.
SPINNING HEEL KICK INTO GNP 🤯
Rafael Fiziev blows the roof off of #UFCBaku 👏
