Live-Action Moana Teaser Shows First Glimpse Of Rock as Maui

The first teaser for the live-action Moana remake is online, offering the first looks at Catherina Laga’aia and The Rock as Moana and Maui. Walt Disney Pictures released the official teaser trailer on Monday. You can check out the preview below. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also shared the first look at the poster that you can see below.

The trailer shows some select footage from the film, set to the live-action film’s take on “How Far I’ll Go.” We don’t see much of Maui’s human form, but there’s a quick shot of him leaping into action.

The film began production last year. The Disney remake is directed by Thomas Kail and written by the original film’s writer Jared Bush, plus Dana Ledoux Miller. It stars Laga’aia, Johnson, John Tui Frankie Adams, and Rena Owen. The synopsis for the film, which releases on July 10th, 2026, reads:

In Disney’s live-action reimagining of the beloved Oscar-nominated animated adventure, Moana (Catherine Lagaʻaia) answers the Ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.
