Ratings Breakdown For This Week’s AEW Dynamite: Main Event Gains Viewers, Numbers Down Overall

As previously reported, this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite dropped to below a million viewers, getting 954,000. It also dropped in the key 18-49 demographic with an 0.35 (456,000 viewers) and had a 0.22 in 18-34. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has more details on the numbers, including a look at each individual quarter of the show.

After six weeks of performing better than RAW in men 18-49, the show did not do so this week. RAW had 388,000 viewers in that measure compared to Dynamite’s 310,000. RAW was also ahead in women, 231,000 to 144,000. Dynamite was down across the board. And while Dynamite could perform better next week, RAW will be on a different channel than normal so it doesn’t really count. Both shows will likely be hurt by the Winter Olympics.

Dynamite was #3 for the night and #3 in its time slot behind South Park (844,000, 0.44 rating) and a head-to-head NBA game (1,268,000 viewers, 0.43 rating). AEW was ahead of the World Cup soccer qualifier between the US and the Honduras that went head to head. That had 843,000 viewers and a 0.32 rating. Dynamite also beat the late NBA game (855,000 viewers, 0.28 rating), College Basketball (673,000, 0.14 rating) and an NHL game head-to-head (275,000 viewers, 0.08 rating).

Dynamite was #10 in women 18-49, #3 in men 18-49, #3 in 18-34, #3 in women 12-34 and #6 in men 12-34. It was down 13.3% in viewers from last week, down 14% in 18-49 and down 8.4% in 18-34. However it was up from a year ago, with NXT as competition. It was up 13% in viewers from last year, 11.8% in 18-49 and up 52% in 18-34. AEw had 82,000 in men 18-34 (down 20.4%), 70,000 in women 18-34 (up 11.1%), 222,000 in men 35-49 (down 19.6%) and 76,000 in women 35-49 (down 13.6%). The audience was 68% percent women in 18-49. The show did an 0.15 in 12-17 (down 28.6%), 0.22 in 18-34 (down 8.4%), 0.48 in 35-49 (down 16.5%) and 0.39 in 50+ (down 7.1%).

The numbers reflect that it opens strong with women thanks to The Big Bang Theory, but the male audience will go to the most important segment and stick around longer. Overall viewers drop thanks to the drop in women. AEW also started lower this week than they did the week before. Q1 had the lead in viewers, 18-49, 18-34, women 18-34, 35-49, men 35-49 and women 35-49. Q1 and Q7 tied for the high point in men 18-49 and Q7 was the high point for men 18-34. The Punk vs. MJF match actually gained viewers as it went on.
