Shawn Spears, the NXT North American Champion, has praised his faction, The Culling, which includes Brooks Jensen, Niko Vance, and Izzi Dame. The group, officially named at NXT Roadblock, represents Spears’ return to stable leadership.
In a recent interview on Gabby AF (per Fightful), Spears discussed his role as a veteran in NXT and his experience leading this new faction.
“The faction is complete. A lot of pieces in play for a while that finally came to fruition, so what you saw on NXT that happened to Tony [D’Angelo] and his crew was a long time coming, good planning. I feel the people that are in this little group are people that have kind of been looking to break out for a long time. Brooks Jensen, Niko Vance, Izzi Dame, people that have kind of been, when I say kids, I say it in the most respectful way, they’re just younger, they’re very hungry, very driven, and I can kind of see little pieces of myself and how I used to be, and to a degree, how I still am, in each one of them and then collectively. When you can see that in somebody else or when you kind of recognize their hunger in younger talent, it can kind of..it makes things exciting again, and if you’ve been around, for someone like me who just hit 23 years in January, sometimes it’s hard to get really geeked up and excited about certain things or plans. I’ve been around long enough to know that sometimes plans fall through. The majority of the time, things change, the business pivots one way, it goes the other, things like that. But in this case, when I get three specific young talents with me like those three, I get excited no matter what we’re doing. I don’t care where we’re pivoting, I don’t care where we go, I don’t care what the plan is. I have these three core kids that I know are limitless in terms of talent and possibility. So in that regard, it’s very exciting for someone like me because I kind of know what they’re going to go through, I know the ups and downs they’re going to go through, and I know how many times probably they’re going to go through it. So I’m able to kind of help or guide [them]. I can kind of help out in that regard,” Spears said.
