The Name on the Marquee: Smoky Mountain Wrestling (12.24.1994)

-Originally aired December 24, 1994.

-Your hosts are Jim Ross and Les Thatcher.

DIRTY WHITE BOY (SMW Champion) vs. THE NIGHTMARE
-DWB’s pissed off after being attacked last week and attacks Nightmare without taking off the title belt. Slam and clobbering by the White Boy. Nightmare starts targeting the knee to “induce swelling” according to JR, which sounds like some weird thing that the commentators would be fed today during a RAW match.. DWB fights back and hits the Bucksnort blaster to finish.

-DWB clarifies that he’s actually angrier about Dirty White Girl’s name being dropped in the promo last week than he is about the sneak attack.

“Nature Boy” BUDDY LANDELL (with Robert Q. Harmon) vs STEVE SKYFIRE
-Buddy Landell is using the mix of Ric Flair’s theme that was used for CWA in Memphis for a while. I have no idea why they’re keeping the sports agent as a character because he seems more like an actor that they hired to come in for one shot, he has no charisma and adds nothing to Landell’s act.

-Landell smacks Skyfire around and stomps away. DDT, and Landell awesomely uses his opponent’s body as a backstop while he leans back and catches his breath. Landell was such a fuck-up that he could never really go past a certain level of stardom, and it’s sad to see something like this and realize he really COULD have been a big star if he had his shit together. Figure four gets the win.

-Buddy Landell delves more into his past, saying he left SMW because he was insulted by being asked to compete in battle royals with a $2000 cash prize. “I spend more than that on liquor in a year!”

-Full recap of why Jim Cornette ended up managing the Rock & Roll Express, more or less out of spite for Da Gangstas.

BEAT THE CHAMP TV TITLE: “Prime Time” BRIAN LEE (Champion) vs UPTOWN D-LO BROWN
-D-Lo attacks from behind and clotheslines Lee down. Backdrop is countered by Lee and he gets dirty, choking and biting D-Lo. It’s so weird to watch D-Lo wrestling without him, ya know, SAYING stuff. Silent D-Lo is an unsettling D-Lo.

-D-Lo crashes on an attempted moonsault and a splash off the ropes gets three to retain.

-All Tracy Smothers wants for Christmas is for Bryant Anderson to scream “I quit!”

ROCK & ROLL EXPRESS (with Jim Cornette) vs INFERNOS
-Cornette waits until the Express is in the ring to come to ringside, so clearly this isn’t peaceful co-existence.

-Morton puts the boots to one Inferno or another while Da Gangstas sit in on commentary and blow off any threat that these guys might pose. Double dropkick finishes quickly. Gangstas storm the ring for a surprise attack…and Cornette takes off instead of helping his team.

-BUT WAIT! Plot twist, Cornette returns with three tennis racquets and tosses two of them in the ring, and the Express cleans house with the racquets. Cornette gets an amazing pop
