Brian Rogers Asked To Fight Alessio Sakara In His Home Country

April 6, 2016 | Posted by Joseph Lee

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Brian Rogers (12-8 MMA, 5-6 BMMA) revealed that he wanted to fight Alessio Sakara (17-11 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) in his home country because it becomes a marquee fight. The two will battle at Pala Alpitour in Turin, Italy at Bellator 152. It airs on Spike TV after preliminary fights on MMA Junkie.

On needing to finish the fight: “I don’t really want it to go to a decision because we’re on his home court. I don’t know who these judges are going to be and if they’re flying anybody from athletic commissions or what the deal is with that. I want to make sure I leave no doubt and I also can’t put myself in any questionable situations for fear of a quick stoppage.”

On why he wanted the fight: “I asked for it because it was the marquee fight. I said I would be willing and I would like the fight and the opportunity. … He’s a fan favorite. Even when I was on the regional scene coming up I watched him. At the end of the day you want certain people on your resume with names and he’s one of those people. That’s why the fight is taking place.”

On what Sakara brings to the table: “He’s got very dangerous hands. He’s got the power and ability to put anyway away with one punch. However, I feel I do as well. I see myself getting my hand raised.”
